I can't speak to the bite in January, or now for that matter as Crescent seems to be off and on finicky. There are good fish there though. A lot of people stay at Ga. Boys Fish camp, which is North of Crescent (about 15-20 minute run down Dunns Creei to the north end of the lake). From there you can always fish the St Johns, or Dunns too, because if the wind picks up, you don't want to be on Crescent.
There's also what's called the Narrows on the South end of the Lake, which is a cut between Dead Lake and Crescent that a lot of people fish and have success there. Maybe someone else that fishes Crescent too can chime in..

Funny thing I've learned specifically about crescent lake, if people don't catch em they don't post about it. If they do catch em they also don't post about it lol. If u go to the boat ramps it's 95% out of state tags all week long every week. Unless those guys don't use CDC it is rare to hear a report from it. My recent experience and from what I've heard it has been bipolar so far this year, but it does historically turn on with the cold weather, we just haven't had any recently
