Good report...
Glad you got out
Took a couple of days off before I lost em at the end of the year. I turned 65 on Tuesday and that seemed like as good an excuse as any. I hadn’t been to the salt for a while so that’s where I wound up. Tuesday I went solo in the Jon and it was a little brisk. Though I was the only boat in sight when I crossed the inter coastal waterway, I wasn’t the only one fishing.
Total fish caught was 5 short Seatrout and a bit more wind than I hoped for. I found some shorelines out of the wind and had a good time anyway.
Wednesday I met a friend at the ramp and we went further north among the islands and backcountry. We took my skiff so the we could have a bit more comfort and range if we wanted to chase around some. The fish were stingy here too and the water clearer than I’ve seen in a long time. We spooked lots of fish because of that and trolling motor noise. Matt got a nice 18” trout early in the day and from there it became a search and a grind. The weather warmed and I came out of all my cold clothes I had worn. Lots of boats and being midweek I was surprised. Matt said it was nuts on the weekend. Note to self to stay further south where there’s less traffic. It was about noon when I got the smack on my jig I’d been waiting for.
Just shy of 20” he gave a good accounting of himself before a pic and release. Not long after that the wind and the tide started working against each other and we basically sat still for a while before we noticed what was happening. Tide had fallen and we couldn’t go where we had gone just hours before. Now after lunchtime, I think we were both done and ready for the house. We wrapped up and enjoyed the ride in the sun. Not knowing my way around the shallows I let Matt do the driving, one of the smarter moves of the day. I’d be looking for a prop today had I done the driving. A good couple of days and some good memories with a new friend. I hope to see you out soon, wave hello when you see me. Til then, stay healthy………….Skeet.

That clear water, constantly changing pressure and temps make this time of year the most difficult to fish, not to mention the constant presence of wind. Any legal fish this time of year is a great success, good job skeet
