    Default testing some new stuff

I got in some new equipment that I wanted to try out. I hit the lake early ,but not that early. I was more interested in the cooler morning hours than the early morning bite on the hot dog days of summer. I ran out to the center of the lake and shut down the motor to set up. But the wind was stronger than what the weather man had said and I needed to reposition . Ran to the other side of the lake to work with the wind at my back.

I set up and started to play. I have been having problems with the floats that I have been using and found some new ones on line that used a quick release on them like they have on planner boards. They can be set anywhere on your line and when you "pop" them, they just slide down to your stop. They sound like a good idea. Now to see if they will work.

They are a bit larger than I was expecting, but I like the bright colors, making them easy for me to see. And they track nice.

It is going to take a little practice to learn how to set the line in the release so that it will go off when a fish hits them or when you pop your line.

I let the wind blow me around while I tried out different settings for the floats. I was able to get some of them to pop with a good rod jerk, others not so much.

I was getting ready to call it a morning, the sun was high and it was getting hot! The fish finder said that the water temp was 91 deg. when one of the floats jumped, then dove and the rod took a big bend. Fish on !! I dug out the net and the first fish of the day was in the boat. Man that was fun. I put the boat into a big swing and started back over the area. Another rod goes off. Fish number two is in the boat. I make the necessary adjustments and headed back over the area again.

It is getting late in the day, past my normal quitting time, so I call the wife to tell her I'm going to be late.

I ended up boating 6 keeper slabs, 4 of them over 12 inches and the other two over 10 inches. I also hooked into two gars that I got to the side of the boat before they shook off the hook. I also had about 5 LDR's ( long distance releases ).

I still have to learn how to make some adjustment on the setting up of these floats, but I think that they may work for me.

    Until next time.

tight lines and full nets to you all.

    see you on the water

    Jim

another good day at the office !

Glad you got out and got a few. Been wondering where you and most everyone else had gotten off to. Nothing better than fresh fish to brighten the attitude. I’ve had the stuff I need to get the skiff retired but the mosquitoes are relentless back there. I need to look into a thermocell so I can get my trolling rig set back up. I holler at you one day soon.

Wow. Love the floats. I think Ray Charles could see them. I bought new floats and got them tied on and can't wait to try. Great looking slabs. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
