Red face AND What Direction Is the Wind Today?

I dont know if anyone watches the direction of the wind as much as i except for the weather channel. I have a huge American Flag on a big pole that sits in my yard between the house and boatdock, with sliding glass doors facing out my kitchen and living room, its convenient to see where the wind is coming from all the time, especially on days i want to fish or just go for a boat ride. From the Tammi dr canal of the Apopka Beauclaire canal, i know immediately where i am going to fish, by watching that flag, as some lakes off this canal will be rougher than others depending on the wind direction. And most of the time i will look up on my phone where the wind direction will be during the rest of the day, which may give me my final direction in which to head my boat to fish or just boat , and what time.
The wind hits Dora, Beauclaire, and Carlton from different directions and wind speeds causing all kinds of different circumstances, The same for Eustis, and Harris, Griffin.
If you know your windspeeds for the day you are pretty much set on a plan for fishing or a comfortable boat ride.
I have never experienced wind changes, sometimes hourly, and definetly daily as i have in Florida. I consider 40 years almost native, but Illinois , i do not remeber the wind directions changing nearly so often.
Of course most of the time fishing growing up in Illinois was spent in those deep green lakes of the abandoned coal mines, with huge mountainous hills surrounding you, protecting you and the water.
Looking at this huge brass eagle today on top of my boat dock, while my flag is down, waiting for a new one, i dont know whether i believe that brass Eagle, i dont think he is completly on the right direction:? I go to my phone and look at the wind for my area and it says S E? As far as i can tell my Eagle is facing EAST only? Big difference when you get on the lakes? Have i got it put up wrong? Or just wait for the new flag and forget the eagle only as a beautiful ornament? Nevertheless, its a beautiful day out, and i took the crappiemama for a ride yesterday--wind SOUTH.

Good read on how you check the wind. The wind will play a big part in where I launch and how I fish. Thanks for sharing and glad you got out to enjoy the water.

another good day at the office !

Oklahoma is like the panhandle of Texas - if the wind stopped blowing, everyone would fall down.

Glad to hear you got to go for a ride. Wind direction tells me where not to fish more often than not. Fighting wind while trying to position makes for a long day.

Now that's funny. Yep, gotta watch the wind. Fishing with it is a lot easier than fighting against it.

Great read. My bass fishing hero John Roberts who has documented over 100,000 bass caught and released has taught me to be aware of the wind as it positions the food chain.

We are bordered by large bodies of water, and that causes swirls in the patterns.

I use an APP called WINDY and it provides lots of details, projections, and speeds of course. I think you might like to see all that gathered in one spot for those days your eagle is being ornery. I am able to be prepared for speeds and such and plan my trip accordingly.

I am South of Gainesville ( you would have driven right past my house recently ) and we get lots of swirling action around here. As you near the seas, the winds become much more reliable as to directions, as in from sea to shore. Our Summer storms can be reliably guessed as to where the worst parts will be. I-75 is like a natural divider, with weather being different on either side. Newberry gets pounded reliably.

There are definitely patterns to be seen if you look. Take notes and see what you notice. My best observation- If it is a NorEaster, it will blow for either three days or five.

Hope the winds stay as calm as they have been and you get out there and get after them.
Maybe they will bite this one……

Just a side note to my post in honor of my great stepfather who was my fishing buddy for many years, retired farmer at heart. Jim would say "WELL THE COWS ARE LAYING DOWN, NO FISH BITING TODAY"
