Years ago where I live, SW Louisiana, we had this (homemade bathtub races) during our contraband days festival! Was a blast to watch! Greedy politicians and city council members have sadly now ruined that festival! It used to be 2 weeks and now it is a mere weekend with hardly anyone attending any more. Well at least I had fun during my teen years.

We also had bathtub races years back, though I never participated. Folks would cut out a fiberglass tub and glass it onto a little go fast hull. A 20 horse motor on the back of one I saw with a trick prop. I don’t think I was that brave even then. Cool lookin stuff though.

I watched many boat races growing up in the 50's. Those boys had one hand on the wheel and one on the throttle and man they flew.
Saw many boats flip or go airborne after hitting debris or a log etc.
Man it was fun to watch those racers. To this day the memory of boat racing still excites me.
