    Default Under the influence can

unquestionably yield to unsatisfactory results, many times wishing we had counted more sheep! Yesterday's action, even with dirt o' clock start-up, didn't produce my 1st single-pole/ultra-light/artificial-only "tap" until 30 minutes in. Still relatively new to this area(3rd trip), so I'm trying to add to my fav spots/possible lures. Recently added the day before to 2 lb Nano-braid(Thanks Skeet)...it is a true reward in my technique o' choice when coupled with 2 feet of flouro. Plenty of fruitless casting, but definitely worth the early-hour start/drive. Lure choice (colors/weight/length) was a lot more than normal, experiencing too many nice size, lost fish while using the micro-sized 1/48, 1/32 # 8,10's(even after opening hook a little). More success/boated fish came on 1/16 oz. #6's/4's along with finding 2 more spots while cold-casting.. More keeper-size fish than throwbacks that included this tug-o-war loser...23", 4.5 lb. channel catName: 20210525_162316.jpg

Size: 76.0 KB Four break/bite off's(possibly gar), throwback b/g, crappie, one beautiful red-belly also made the activity list. Full sun w/low 90's made it a trip worth "toasting"! Also, had the fly rod although never waved the "magic wand".
Thanks for coming along, 'til next time/go get ya some.

Well you clearly found the crappie and enough of the others for an interesting day. I too lost a few that came unbuttoned last weekend and that was with #6 hooks. I think paying attention to how much of the body fills the hook gap could be part of the issue, too deep in the plastic. Not at all sure I’ll get out this weekend with the heavy traffic, early in and early out if I do. I found a nice area last weekend that’s screaming at me to come back with a beetle spin, LOTS of down trees. Couple of big gators rumbled at me too. Glad you found enough to make the drive worth it.

Wow you rock. What a great trip. Thanks for sharing those excellent pictures. The 2# Nano Braid with a floro leader is a great tip. Tight Lines.
