    Arrow Been a while

Since Doug and I shared a boat and we changed that today. Exploration was the theme mostly with both of us not knowing the areas we fished. We started in an area that we both had fished before for a short while just cuz we couldn’t drive by without getting a few of the crappie that lived there, and as the pics will show, they didn’t disappoint. Time wore on and a few lost big fish later, we started out towards new grounds. They also didn’t disappoint. The river traffic was brutal for me but that’s normal for where we were, but we had to go. Out of the channel area we found peace, and fish. Never lit the world on fire but we stayed busy and found places to capitalize on next time around when the wind wasn’t 15 mph plus. The highlight of the day for me was the stump knockers that were a PB for me and the Warmouth that just kept showing up all day in one size or another. We finished the day after a good lunch Doug had brought along with a good mixed bag that anyone would be pleased with. Stumpknockers, Warmouth, 9” bluegill and 6nice. Crappie at 14” and 13 7/8 biggest all went home with Doug for future dinners. The way back to the ramp we spotted this lizard working on his tan, but he wouldn’t hang around for a short video. A good trip that we both enjoyed in temps below normal. Hope y’all get out soon, sure was a good day. Til we meet on the water next time...... Skeet

Because today's excursion had Capt. Skeetbum's boat as our mode of transportation, I gave respectful ice-break, post/title privilege to Capt. Tim. My post title to capture today's diverse activities would have been something like 'Wind, wands and wasps'. Along with today's diverse species variety, the forecasted "wind" DID materialize up to 20 mph NE. Unfortunately, that wreaked havoc with our longer wands(flyrods) that we both enjoy. Fortunately though, our shorter u/l wands, proved to be the single-pole technique we both equally enjoy. Along with the Manatees and Gators(>11'), Tim queried, several hours into our trip, "do you see that white looking ball on that limb?" After scanning the nearby, overhanging tree limbs, I caught a glimpse of his subject matter...a large, ACTIVE paper wasp nest with sizable occupants only 15 feet away @EYE LEVEL! That got the ol' adrenaline flow revved-up even more than Tim's 2-14" Crappie & 2-9"+ coppernose & his super-chunky/feisty warmouth. I must admit that I was hoping to make the flyrod more of a success and subsequently used it more than Tim. He instead was putting on a top-notch show with his sling-shot casting proficiency... I didn't see whether he was doing this with his eyes closed or not, but this guy can knock a nickel off a fence post @30 feet...and give you back change! Do NOT accept a sling-shot/accuracy cast wager with this guy... unless you need to make room in your pockets! Another reinforced value that I realized today = LUCKY enough to be able to fish ANY weekday I want...I'll gladly leave the weekends for the workforce Warriors. Seems to be an inevitable "wind" that guarantees to blow!

    Thanks again Tim
Thanks for checkin' on me! CURIOSITY takes me there, SUCCESS ushers me back!

I bet you two put on a real show. That is one nice bunch of fish and I'm glad you didn't try to bring that lizard home with you. The sight of him that close would turn my hair white just like yours Tim. You didn't by any chance run Doug's end of the boat under the wasp nest on purpose' did you?

Sam, my aversion to those things is total. I wouldn’t wish those on anyone. They always seem to be about head high on the branches they call home. It was a fun day and we stayed about 2 hours later than planned. How about you, are you getting out any?

A couple weeks back a friend of mine saw one of those big lizards with a fawn in its mouth.
Obviously had just killed it as the doe was nearby and very frantic over it.
It dropped the dead fawn and went into the water as my friend approached, but of coarse came back for it later.
The same guy has a kayak he no longer uses for that reason.
Not all that comfortable with having his butt that close to the water around those things.

He's perfectly safe as long as he gets rid of his lt. brown clothing! Actually though, I don't recall ever seeing a deer paddling a yak!

Yo, there’s a funny turn of events that led to the Jon we were in yesterday. I wanted something smaller and lighter than my 17’ Carolina skiff. I’ve owned 3 canoes and wasn’t against that idea and the kayak idea had a lot of traction, almost made the trip to BPS for a 12T model of theirs. I had been looking for a 1648 Jon for three years with no success short of biting off a payment on a new one. I work for Waste Pro and while at the landfill I came across a gent throwing this one out. When I inquired about it he offered it to me for the taking, along with the trailer. Everyone that knows me understands that I’m a little outside the box but I do strongly believe in our creator and the way he works in our lives. He chooses the way to give you the information needed for us to be taken care of, but you have to listen. I took this event as his way of telling me that I had no further place in either a canoe or a kayak, and I thank Him for it regularly. It isn’t high sided but much safer than either of the other choices that were on my mind. It’s to our advantage to listen when spoken to.

Well there are a few people with some years on them that fish that lake regularly from kayaks.
Im glad your enjoying your Jon boat. Mines a 1442 that suits me just fine for what i like to do.
Havent used the 17’ Key West in more than 2 years now since buying the Jon.
Took me a few weeks longer than i had hoped, but on Friday i did break the 500 mark since i started counting on Jan. 8th.
All single poling the weed edges very slowly, or just dropping the jig into a hole.
Ive tried trolling but all i catch is those pesky Bass. lol
But ive yanked a few nice ones out of the weeds also.
Im convinced those fish live there year round.
Where else can they go when the whole lake is shallow?

Tim I have not fished in so long, my reel handles may not turn. I'm pretty close to selling everything and just enjoying everyone's great stories. I will still do some jigs, but that has gotten tougher over the past year. It's not what I want but we don't always get to make those decisions.
