    Default Stumbling in the salt

Heard of some tarpon activity over near ponce inlet and decided to see what was there. Haven’t been that way in more years than I care to admit and the tides seemed to be good so off I went. Didn’t start too early due to oyster bars in some areas and found the ramp very nice with bathrooms but pay to park. Eased around without incident and learned a few things about the area. Mostly that I’d prefer a mid week trip, lots of traffic. Some backcountry areas looked promising and I will need to get to them earlier next time. Ended the day having caught a short trout, a short sheepshead(that hurt letting him go, 1/4” short), a Cero mackerel, a small but legal flounder that came home and a couple of ladyfish. At the ramp just after 12 and an hours drive home, good by my standards. No pics, just a fun time getting to know a little of someplace I’ll come back to. Hope y’all got out too before the monsoons get here later.

I landed a large tarpon from the beach. Good luck.

Actually sounds cautiously sure footed, for a 1st exploration...nice mix Tim, the tides sure change there & them backwaters do hold many oyster bars the further back in them you go, so be careful if/when returning....

That was my thought Jeff. Getting there wouldn’t have been bad but with no push pole I figured I’d better behave. Take away a couple of feet of water with the tide and things would be very different. I can see the area being good in colder months and less boat traffic too.

Yep, has to be a early bite over there to go, because the traffic get so busy after 10 in the morning.....
