    Default Newnans Lake Gainesville, FL

Today I hit the lake at O’ Dark Hundred. I spider rigged for a few hours and managed three fish, one medium two dinks. Then trolled out the back of the boat for three more mediums. All released.

Interesting place in that the lake seems to be no deeper than six feet. There were hundreds ofwater turkeys living there. I saw several mating pairs of bald eagles and also ospreys and watched red tail hawks gathering Spanish moss for their nest. Spring is on full speed. Lots of alligators and a couple of turtles were also checking me out. The cypress trees were really nice.

Fishing wasn’t very good though and an FWC census taker mentioned that nobody seemed to be doing very well. Said January the lake was producing big time. He actually tried to interview me a second time. I spoke to several well seasoned fishermen at the ramp around 1:00 pm and they had fewer fish than I.

I experimented with my two jig rig and that was half good half bad. I can tell you if you allow the line to touch another rod you get an unmitigated disaster. I was impressed with just how easily I could form complicated macrame creations.

I managed my first ever crankbait crappie and that was cool. Poor devil. I also noticed that my yarn chenile jigs with Slab sauce were equal to my Spin Jig lures today.

The weather was gorgeous with a light wind occasionally. The water had a ripple most of the time.

Tomorrow the weather liar says high winds, so I plan to work on my tackle stuff. Gonna pour my own Pony Head jigs. They are expensive to buy as you know. Also found a tackle shop that sells Rapala Shad Raps for $3.99 each, any style. So I got me some more to round out my box.

    I. review I think this lake is not really a good fit for me. I liked the wildness and the beauty but the depth is an issue. Mostly fished water 2 1/2 feet deep. The water is tanic stained but also has brown mud. I suspect fishing the lilly pads with dauber type presentations is best and I haven’t started doing that yet.

She is 13 and named Jerry. Sleeps in bed. Can discern difference between fixing food with scraps available and doing dishes. Good little fighter. Likes to snuggle. Always near by. Easy keeper. So for all those reasons I am keeping the dog.

Micanopy- Although your tag phrase has merit, however, it also spawns... The memories of a great day cannot be contained within a cooler, but "certain" containers within the cooler can enhance them!!

Aqua therapy does not always produce limits, but it almost always allows one to reset and relax. BLNT
Pass the "Sportsman Baton" on before you're gone, promote values for others to hunt and fish upon.

You must have hit on a bad day. That lake has plenty of fish. The middle of lake is between 9' and 11'. Troll some pink/chartreuse or parrot color curly tails with 1/32 or 1/16 ounce jig heads.

I keep hearing that it has been a tough year so far. I’ll try your advice next time I go. I never saw water deeper than six feet and motored around pretty good. We have these large lakes but they are really shallow.
