    Default One more fish please

After freezing yesterday, I had no ambition of repeating the process. Frost on the car just solidified my thought early today. Time went by, a few shows on TV, and I just couldn’t sit any more. Put some clothes on and went outside to find it had warmed up nicely and the sun was out. 15 minutes later I was hooked up and headed back to the scene of yesterday’s crime. Light crowd at the ramp, I was on my way in no time. The wind was half what it was yesterday and the sun felt just great! Ran out to what I thought would be a good starting point. And I went this way, then that way, yawn, this way some more. Turning things over in my mind about color, location, water temps and about everything else I could think of. An hour and three quarters before a rod bent and I was on my way to a good diner. Water in the cooler and I kept after it. Started out running north/ south and finally turned east, the wind had laid down some. One rod went down, then another. A fifteen minute flurry added three more to the box, then back to the here and there, looking around kinda thing. About three hours into this, I tilted my head up and made a humble request for one more fish to complete a good dinner for those at my house. A little more turning here and there and a rod quietly went down, hard. A bit of a tussle and a very nice fish came to the net. The tail was split to the base and healed over time and she was a chunky one. Just put batteries in my scale yesterday and this was the first chance to use it. She pulled it down to 2lbs 1oz, my first 2 pounder of the new year. It would seem my request had been answered. Time was getting on and I now had fish to cook, so I wrapped things up and headed home, it was just after three. No throw backs, everything was a good keeper fish 12” or better. Flat calm again it was a pleasant ride to the ramp, now almost empty. Once there it didn’t take long to put things up and fillet the days take before the sun got low and it cooled again. A slow, relaxing day and a good dinner for all 4 of us. Hope y’all got out and got a few. Maybe I’ll get to see you soon, til then.......Skeet

Good morning Jeff, and yes, it was just that. Last minute plans. Wanting to get a shot at some in the pads and such as they come up but the cold had me nervous. I don’t tolerate it like years past. We’ll get it done soon, lookin forward to it.

Great report. Cold weather is forgotten the minute a rod goes down. Hard to beat a fresh speck dinner. Hope you continue to have success and keep these reports coming.

Decent crunch fer yer bunch! Unless mandated, no real need to early start Florida-fishing this time o' year IMHO.

I too was out giving it a try with much of the same results. Ended up with six that I gave away at the ramp. Very slow but a beautiful day.
Sometimes its good to know that you aren't the only boat not tearing them up. I'll be back!
