Great report. Fun read. Hope you have a great year. Tight Lines.
Started not early enough with the mandatory Dunkin stop and and a grove back by the house to deliver some for the Queen. We got to the ramp and dropped in without incident and were setting rods within ten minutes. Slow would be the word for the action this day but to be fair it was steady enough to keep us there and not pack up. First fish was a dink and the next The rod to go down had one to be happy about. 12’ rod bent and I lifted it til it stopped. Couldn’t move him, but definitely a crappie. Held a little pressure without trying to gain line til I found out how good he was hooked. He came to the surface and opened his mouth, I was impressed with its size. Right about then he shook about 3 times and he came unbuttoned. He was large. So on we went, back and forth through an area that had given us a few fish and one by one, the cooler started lookin better. About the time The second fish went in the box, I noticed that we had a friend had hitch hiked a ride.
Now lizards are common here but this one was very different. His tail had gotten clipped off about halfway back, hence the name Bob for his bobbed tail. Most of these are flighty, running off when you look at them. Bob was much more carefree. He would only move to get out of the way of your hand and stay put. Never seen one like this. So I picked him up and held him in my open hand a while , then put him down and Jessie fooled with him. She put her finger in front of him as you would a bird to perch, and here he came, up her arm to sit on her shoulder. Unaffected by us and our wants to visit with him, the most fearless lizard I’ve ever seen. After a bit Jess put him on the rail over the console, then put him on top of the depth finder. Got busy with a fish or two and looked to see where he’d gotten off to. There he was, chillin in the shade under the depth finder. This guy just needed shades to complete the cool image he portrayed. Funny thing about all this, fishin was slow until we found and fooled with Fearless Bob. While never really active we stayed busy most of the time he was around. A good mascot. He moved off somewhere, things got slow and we wrapped up and went home. We had fished about 3 hours, the temps went up and the wind quit and it just wasn’t comfortable any more. This was Saturday morning. Fast forward a day and I went out to make my rounds on the riding mower and who should be sitting on the hood? You guessed it, Fearless Bob. With the mower parked next to the boat he must have been looking for breakfast. Shooed him off and did my thing.
Fishing was slow but we did get six for dinner. Kept them on ice til Sunday when I cleaned em and put em in the fridge. Looks like the season might be getting wound up but still a little early. Parrot color was the best of the day on a roadrunner head. A couple of boats were spider riggin with lots of rods out, and not doing any better than we were. All our fish were easily over ten but the big one was about 11 1/4” looking forward to things picking up as the water cools. Cooked those fillets and shared them with some friends, all of us enjoying the meal and the company. Here’s a few pics from the day, hope to see you out there next time. Til then......Skeet

I hope you gave that lucky lizard something to eat and made it comfortable. I would be taking it along on all my trips. Of course, it could have been your beautiful partner.

Looks like a good morning on the water. Good company , good fish , good meal. How can a guy go wrong with that ? Thanks for taking us along on your trip.
Nice post Skeet...gotta love the color adaptability of Mr. Bob aka "Corky"(rod handle color conversion!) LOL!
