    Default Just Fishin with SkeetBum

As much as we may agree to disagree on things, it’s because I know we are cut from the same cloth. We’re both stubborn, strong willed, and when we go at something we do it with y’all of our hearts. He taught me a love for the outdoors, how to appreciate the musical pioneers(every car ride with him was a pop quiz to see if I remember who the artist was, and I have to say I was pretty good at giving the correct answer!), and he taught me the beauty of being still while keeping your eyes open, because you never know what you may see/learn in those moments of silence. So much of who I am as a woman today is because of him(even my sense of humor, which mom has a love/hate relationship with... I get scolded by her and he just laughs Just Fishin with SkeetBum). He made sacrifices for the majority of my childhood to make sure that my mom, sister and I had a roof over our heads and food on the table. According to him we had some hard times, but I can tell you that 30 years later I remember a childhood filled with happiness, love, and a lot of laughter. I loved going fishing with him every chance I got, and can clearly remember seeing the pride in his eyes when I would out-fish him.

I remember one time in particular on Lake Woodruff(I believe, Dad, correct me if I’m wrong) we went out fishing for the dumb ones(aka whatever would bite) and he was using all of the right methods he had learned while I was casting where ever I thought there might be a fish. He was telling me to cast in front of the boat(I always sat in the back by the prop, he sat up front to steer the trolling motor) because the fish wouldn’t be there after the boat went through. I did what typical 10/11 year olds do and said, “ Ok Daddy, but let me try this...” I remember when the first one hit he was silent, and when I reeled it in closer and he saw it was a bass I think he got more excited than I was! I ended up landing 2 good sized bass that day, and we ate good that night.

I’ve got enough fishing stories with dad, from chasing the schoolies in the Deltona lakes to fighting Reds on the coast, and I wouldn’t trade those memories for anything. Thank you for teaching me the fun of listening to a 1 pound crappie destroy the ‘drag’ on a snoopy pole, and always bating my hook when we used crickets because I didn’t want them to jump on me. It’s only fitting that I put some of the lyrics to our song on this post.

I say, 'Daddy loves you, baby' one more time
    She says, 'I know ... I think I've got a bite.
And all this laughin', cryin', smilin',
dyin' here inside's what I call, livin'
And she thinks we’re just fishin' on the riverside
Throwin' back what we could fry
    Drownin' worms and killin' time
    Nothin' too ambitious
    She ain't even thinkin' 'bout
What's really goin' on right now
    But I guarantee this memory's a big'in

Happy Father’s Day to my favorite fishing buddy, SkeetBum. I love you and can’t wait to see you and give you a hug tonight!

Pics attached are of that famous first bass, both of us giving fishy kisses, a much younger Skeet cleaning fish, and the official Papa’s Fishing Fanclub

I could've read that, without knowing the names or seeing the pictures and known it was Tim. I'm glad you included the picture when he was young, I just assumed he was born an old man. When you see him, give him a hug and a HAPPY FATHER'S DAY from his old fishing buddy in Tennessee. Best Wishes Sam

I have three daughter's I've taken fishing many a time as they grew up. One still fishes with me regularly, her name is Jess too! Thank you so much for sharing. Made me cry just a little. Oh, guess what I did today for my Jess, I put new pads and rotors on the front of her car, just got done! Reverse Fathers Day present! But it was actually fun, cause I made her do most of the work! lol HAPPY FATHERS DAY to all the fathers out there...

I can’t thank you enough for this Jess. I too have the memories I sift through at different times. I have many fishin buddies but our times were special. I remember the pic of me cleaning fish. I still had hair, I could squat down like that and not have to holler for help when I had to get up, and that duster was a scream to drive. Boat history too, the Lund, the stick steer sea nymph, and the other woman. I look forward to the trips yet to come, just another chapter about to start gaining ground. Love you, see y’all tonight.

Super post, she put tears in a lot of eyes I'm sure. I thanked God for the father day wishes from my 2 sons and thought hard about my son Jeff that left us. Miss him like crazy.
