A winning combo for sure, I love it. I am heading to my bait room now.
I've always had a soft spot for beetle spins, but over the last 5 months or so, they have earned a dedicated go-to lure in my ultra-skinny arsenal. One problem that irked me though was the 2/4 lb mono getting wedged in the circular tie point(elbow). I worked on four different ways in an effort to thwart this nuisance- 1) Wrapping thread to build up a curb on either side of circle(ok fix) 2)- Copied spinnerbait elbow-style by twisting the elbow once or twice to eliminate "slot"(ok fix) 3)- Small length of .029 SS wire and put 90 degree bend @elbow(better fix) 4)- Copied spinnerbait D-bend elbow(best fix). The reason #3,4 get the higher rating is because whatever knot you tie, your line will never wedge! Your knot actually rotates around the elbow= problemo solved! I also tried to downsize the amount of metal in harness/hardware to reduce the weight in my ultra-skinny obsession. Accompanying pics show top left white beetle body with normal circular elbow(enemy), the other 3 show various fixes(including weightless straight shank hook), I didn't have a twisted elbow to show but you know the idea. I have also included some more "Ragus" that I'll be testing tomorrow(I particularly like the blue/black & two-tone grey).
