Those Tilapia can get really big. At the very end of our canal was a great place for tilapia apparently because when we bought our home here 28 years ago, i had a row of commercial fisherman every day headed past my house toward those tilapia, commercial fisherman. i always watched as they came back by to make sure they were not keeping any of our other fish.I asked my new neighbors--are they any good to eat?? everybody shook their head no and the the most said too many bones.the commercial fisherman were at that time in the early 90's selling to cat food producers . Imagine my surprise when Tilapia started appearing in the last 10 years on menus and people loving them? im still confused--but i havent ordered any. the commercial boats stopped coming in years ago and im not sure why.im sure with the nice sand bottom back at the end the tilapia are still there, must be millions by now? maybe youall should come over with a couple nes and we find out one day.

Awesome fish Skeet! You will be ready for a state or world record gill or shellcracker now. How big do tilapia get down there?

I’ve seen them much bigger, probably twice that size in the wild. Brevard co zoo has some that are fed daily that distracted me most of the day after seeing them, huge things. Proportionately, they’re much thicker than any other panfish I’ve ever seen.
