Once again, first day post front, bluebird skies and wind that only held off enough for it to warm up. A little. Mid forties at launch and sixty when I pulled, in at almost 7 and out at 10:30. Wind went from 5 early to 20 when I pulled. Made putting her on the trailer real fun. Went through the motions, changed styles and colors, tried a float and a crankbait, nothing was happening. Switched over to what I know works when it’s working and put my head down. Grand total was 5 very small gills, 1 short crappie and 3 Warmouth that were all good enough for dinner but got a pass. I wasn’t alone though. Got serenaded by a Tom looking for his honey of the day and got visited by the Kite again, sure is pretty. He cares little about me being close but doesn’t like the fast whipping of the rod when I cast. Here’s a couple of pics, hope y’all did better than I did. I always enjoy being out, it’s just better when the water gets stirred up some. Hope to see y’all soon, til then......Skeet

PS, there’s a new place in Orange City we need to check out, it was closed when I went by.

Great pic and report. Yep, always a pleasure to get out on the water. Thanks for sharing.

I'm sure it's hard for other upper states to see the beautiful skies in Kite pic & have any mercy for us Florida folks to be able to get out & enjoy the outdoors, but that being said...this has to be the most challenging winter of fishing on WEEKENDS I can remember in 17 yrs....at least the last 2 months...cold front every Friday followed by windy/high pressure conditions...dare I say I welcome the summer heat/rain patterns to returnmost would probably answer ...well I salute you for the effort Tim, it's still better than a good day at work...

You are correct Jeff. Been a long brutal run of tough weather. Put my boat in water Monday and has sat covered in wet slip since. This wind is relentless.

At least you got out Skeet. Looks like you enjoyed the surroundings. I haven't been on the water in about 2 weeks. May go tomorrow if the winds slow down.

You’re all right. I’m blessed to be able to go and I give thanks for that. I’m catching some fish, just not what is normal for this time of year. I snuck out again today but not early. Fished about 4 hours maybe and had a good gill and an 11” crappie in the box when I got to the ramp, they got a pass. Found some juveniles and they were fun to play with, had near 10 on the clicker time I was done. Couple of LMB and another couple of redbreast rounded out the day, I had done much better than anyone else I spoke with. Met some folks from Madisonville, Ky area while I was out that I hope to hear from, they had a few from early in the day. You know I was throwing the little stuff. With it being tough conditions I wanted everything I could get on my side. I lost the fish of the day at-the base of a big cypress, really gave me what for before it came unbuttoned. I sit here now and notice that the wind that drove me off the water has laid down some, the trees not being thrown around, I’ll bet they’ve turned on again. A good weekend with all things considered. Even got to shoot some clays yesterday evening, icing on the cake. Thanks for following my weekend, it’s been good for me. Hope y’all get a chance to go and brighten your attitude and add to the stash in the frozer, maybe I’ll see you there. Til then......Skeet

PS, I saw schools of bait running on the surface, the nervous water we all look for. That keeps up we’ll have a good time when we can get the weather right. The occasional toilet flush followed the bait was bad for my nerves.

Amen Brother! I think we all remember those few times when a giant exploded on a top water bait. Sometimes we even remember to set the hook.

Doug, Joni wasn’t too hot on the timing to go shoot. We were at the mall in Sanford when I got the invite. He picked me up there, stopped by the house and got my stuff and we were gone——!!
