Default Time to call the COPS

After being fortunate to have adequate success in the freshwater Crappie action for the past 8 weeks or so, the alarm went off so I called the COPS= Change of pursuit scenario! 1st day of West coast Snook season arrived yesterday on a nice, welcomed warm-up day promised by the meteorologists. Wasn't in too much of a hurry due to slow warm-up, so I set the game plan in motion around 11 am to see what I could slip a net under. 2nd cast yielded a beautiful fat 17" speckled trout.Name: 20200302_071814.jpg

Size: 39.2 KB Ended up with keeping a 5 fish limit of 10 keeper-sized trout measuring from 16- 19".Name: 20200302_070156.jpg

Size: 86.9 KB Adding to the artificial-only lure catch was 3 ladyfish(2 acrobatic 22" monsters), 3 lb. Bluefish, undersized trout, undersized seabass. A very nice COP(change of pace) but the targeted Snook proved evasive for now. Water temp was 71 with a nice rising tide all afternoon.

Also set 5 crab pots that only yielded 5 blue crabs @day's end.

Them some sure nuf pretty trout. Haven’t caught one since the early 70’s. Used to love to get them ladyfish on light tackle. Most acrobatic fish you will ever catch in my opinion.

I sure miss the Salt! Wow! those Trout are beautiful Doug, thanks for taking us along. Had some fun last year from shore, catching ( mostly NOT catching) some much smaller ladyfish. Guy told me he calls them the small Tarpon. lol

Some grilled Robalo sure would satisfy my taste buds bout now.

Actually Marv many times the Ladyfish are referred to as the "poor man's Tarpon"! Also released two "not so Ladylike" 17 inch Reds.

A good tripDoug, would have enjoyed being in the other end of the boat. Or in mine nearby. I still have some fillets from my last trip over I need to get done up. We might have to take the tiny tackle and see how that goes.

I should know by now Doug has a way with words like no other
The finest gift you can give to any fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"
