    Default St Johns River

Got out this morning to try some vertical jigging. Caught three baby specs and one toddler. I've had a tough year.

Yes, I agree. Maybe I should go back to buying minows! I'm so frustrated this year. I usually do decent pre spawn in the river, but I struggle finding them in the river when they move up to do their thing. As for yesterday I thought I'd do better ahead of the front, but once again I'm left scratching my head. I appreciate everyone's positive feedback.

Keep at it, it's more fun than most things I can think of !!
The finest gift you can give to any fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"

We are fishing the Astor area and have found fish shallow in the pads and mats, using 32nd ounce jigs tipped with Gulp Alive Minnows (you can order them on line and have them shipped to Walmart), yesterday was a better day and the females are moving shallow.

Most of the time I use plastic. Over the last couple days I have found that live bate is working better. Haven’t been setting the world on fire. Normally getting 14 to 18 a day. Quitting around 12/30 to 1. Some of the fish are very nice. Name: IMG_0276.jpg

Thank you. I'm going to look into those minnows. I use gulp in saltwater, but never seen the minnows. Also thank you for the info

My folks fish the Astor area all winter and I never thought I'd see them buying minnows again, but they have the past couple years. Dad said he'd rather do that than get skunked. A lot of his buddies have switched to live bait too. Good for the local bait shop I'm sure!
