    Default Pres Day payoff

Fortunate to have been a Federal employee(now retired 7 years) that has always enjoyed the lower weekday traffic, one of my favorite Crappie fishing day was President's Day(mid-February). Yesterday was a true example of fun times catching/releasing/keeping nice specimens from my long-distance relationship with the broad-shouldered, linebacker attitude specks from the St. Johns river system. Slight uptick in weekday boat traffic due to the Holiday pass, but still enjoyed another absolutely beautiful sunrise and Florida weather/wind scenario. Various single-pole techniques were used(always best in keeping well-tuned) with float/fly, dock shooting, vertical jigging, casting traded off to keep things fresh. Hand-tied hair mini jigs(untipped/undipped) were baits of choice on skinny 3 lb. JDM ester line except on the 10' rear-seated rod that is spooled w/6 lb. All methods produced well but personally I prefer the feel the "tick" when casting the skinny mini arsenal. Species caught were l/m, bream family, crappie, Bowfin (3 lbr.). Water temp. @ daybreak was 67.8, end of day 72. Presidential Ball was attended mostly by black-suit/tail-tattered males with some nice-sized ladies in the box. Kept 21(black Jacks?) More released than kept that were sub 11" rs. If you haven't been tempted into the skinny-tackle challenge yet, I caution you to think twice or more about the attempt to kick it up a notch by downsizing your landing net!Name: 20200218_064542.jpg

Love that first picture, IMHO it is 2021 calendar worthy.

Good trip and some very pretty fish. Working this week has been tough knowing the conditions were just perfect, and it ain’t over yet. Weekend commitments don’t give me any relief either. I must be a real nasty guy cuz it’s sure coming back around on me.

Thanks for taking us along Doug, I’m sure it was a day we would all enjoy. Hope you got rested up today cuz tomorrow’s forecast is lookin pretty good. Enjoy if you go.

Great pics Doug, my next job will hopefully include some weekdays off at some point
