    Default Mystery solved

So I went this morning but it was kind of my normal luck first day after a front pushes through. I wouldn’t have gone hungry but no chance at a feast. Went upriver early while it was cold because the forecast was for stiff winds after 9 or so, and they didn’t lie. Caught a few on a jig and cork and a couple on my Blind Popeye that I had to remake after yesterday’s mudfish melee. Glad they weren’t painted, would have been bald at days end. Best fish was no giant but awful purty with his suit on.

When the wind got up, the bite slowed and I had to go somewhere out of the wind. Pulled into another slough and started back with the jig and cork, and a bird moved in the tree to my right. Who was it but the kite that I had gotten an ID on yesterday. Like 10’ away. Dug for the phone and he (she?) couldn’t have cared less that I was there. Snapped a few pics and moved on.Name: F0802552-C304-493C-B18C-99A47C9830F6.jpg

Very pretty bird with a longer than usual hook to the beak for opening snails. Looked things over and moved a little a few times and flew off for better snailing I guess. So cool to have about 2 minutes to look it over.
The bite didn’t improve much and it got close to noon, so after going through most of the area I was familiar with I packed up and headed home. None to clean, caught 5 different species and no bad issues to deal with. A good day. Hope to see y’all on the water one day soon, til then.......Skeet.

Curious as to how the eagles, osprey, & hawks take to him being in the area, although he looks every bit the part to be able to fend for him/herself...and agree that's a nice Tux's the fellow's sporting on the ruler....

Brother Skeet, I can promise you that I have had many days like that when it was just as much fun watching nature happening around me... even though the fishing action was much poorer than I would have wanted it. Man, there can be no doubt that that was a black crappie. IMHO: I believe that it is a big part of the Creator's Plan that He get us out sometimes just to show us a few pieces of His Handiwork... and to keep us reeled in from the worries and anxieties of living in today's world.
Thanks for sharing your day and the awesome pics with the rest of us.

I agree with you on the tolerance of the other local raptors. Lots of red shouldered hawks around there. Maybe they’re all just busy surviving.

K, I have enjoyed being a spectator in the outdoors for a long time. When I hunted I would get to a morning sit at least an hour before the sun, sometimes 2. No noise and the still air gave me an advantage, and I can go on a long time on some of the things I saw watching the woods wake up. While a lot of us dearly love to fish,it isn’t always about fishing.

I feel you on the post front fishing.

Seems every Thursday or Friday one blows through and shuts the fish down for the weekend.

I'm going to have to start taking impromptu days off during the week to fish if I want to get it done it seems.
