    Default Missing Home

I hear a lot of people talk about how being a military spouse is the hardest job in the Corps, and for the most part that phrase makes me cringe. In my opinion the thing that makes it difficult or even worth mentioning is that you pick up everything and move to a place where you know nobody and have to create a life for yourself. My husband has been in the Marine Corps for 8 years now, and the thing I’ve not been able to find during our adventures was the feeling I get when my car pulls in to Mom and Dad’s house. The feeling that I’m home.

Back in November I was able to bring my Lil Guppy to Mom and Dad’s to celebrate Thanksgiving and another day that I’m sure SkeetBum would rather just fall off the calendar, his birthday(November 30th). During our trip we got to try out Dad’s new boat since he sold “The Other Woman” and we got to play catch and release with a few of our finned friends. I’m pretty sure if you were to ask Lil Guppy she’d tell you that the highlight was riding in a boat under the train tracks while a train was going over, or the fact that she got to ride in the front of Papa’s Truck with just a seat belt like a big girl! (It really is the little things, after all!) But as I sit here on my couch several states away listening to the wind chimes being harassed by winter’s winds I can tell you that the highlight for me was being on the water with Dad, trolling with the spider rig, waiting for the tips to start bouncing.

I’ve been all over the country and seen some pretty amazing sights, but nothing compares to the feeling of the wind in your hair and getting bounced around in a boat with some of my favorite people. Thanks for the trip, Dad!

I got a few good pics of our time on the water that day, hope you enjoy them. Knock ‘em in the head for me until we get back!

You really know how to hurt a guy. Makes me want to come and get you two and we find a place to play. Love you two more than I can find the words for. For me, that’s rare. We’ll talk later. Dad

What a nice read with some awesome pics. It's clear that daddy's little girl always knows where the heart is.
Skeet, you are indeed blessed my friend. I know you miss them constantly.

Great post and pictures, your dad is definitely one of a kind great man. I feel your pain of being away as I was the one being deployed all the time and yes you do play a extremely important and hard role in the whole process. Prayers go out to you and the whole family.

Other than the fact that he's uglier than heck, in actuality, he is a pretty special feller around here .........

It is at the ramp on Lake Monroe in Sanford when you put in right under the 17-92 bridge. Lil Guppy has a habit of finding things like that and likes having her picture taken lol

I hear ya Bug, now I just need the smarts. Doug always lets me look good on the west coast but I just haven’t spent the time on the east coast to be good at it. Soon......

Thank you for the post. It feels good knowing that you two enjoy it so, but better knowing that I built a fire inside of you to follow my lead in the outdoors. Both you and your sister make a Daddy PROUD. She and Camryn have taken more deer with my old rifle than I ever did. As long as I’m able we’ll do this again, whenever the chance allows.

And Thank You everyone for the kind comments. This is all very close to home. My wife and 2 daughters always seemed to be waiting for me to come home. I’ve made a living behind the wheel for almost 30 years and logged over 2 1/2 million miles, and all those miles and all that time, my three girls gave me the foundation it took to make it all work. May 29 my wife and I celebrate 40 years together. It takes a strong relationship to survive all that life has handed us, and we all still smile and love one another. God is good or none of this would have been possible.
