    Default Fat Gilbert @ Griffin

Aiming to log some additional water time on Lake Griffin for this Sunday's Bill Bobalooza Crappiefest, I had an opportunity to punch in @ daybreak. The predicted wind forecast was on target with gusts nearing 30 mph. Protected shorelines are the sensible trolling venue, but I tried my luck, as I often do...outside the box! With safety in mind I proceeded to get into Evil Knievel mindset after 1 1/2 hrs. of unsuccessful sensible trolling. The electric motor had no control value so I decided to use the gas motor to work my plan. After casting one small 1/16 oz. twister on a 5 foot rod, I decided to hand hold the rod while evaluating the boat speed with a bump and shift technique. About a minute later I was rewarded with a feisty, good for Griffin, 11 1/2 " crappie that went in the dinner bath. I decided to beef up my rod count to a somewhat manageable 4 count. It was a daunting task but was rewarded with 5 more fat keepers to do the on board group-swim After about 1 1/2 hrs.of my "work out"(w/o gym club fees), I sought out more friendly waters and caught only 1 more keeper. I then had a single pole itch that was scratched @ some nearby docks after putting my trolling gear to rest. Not too very long into my 5 foot skinny rod attempts @shallow crappie, I experienced that sweet "tap". A sizable rod-arch yielded the ol' adrenaline rush that we wish for and I was pleasantly surprised by the slightly bigger of two dinner "plate size" BLUEGILL!! Also accompanied w/fish pics is the real-time conditions on Griffin Ocean yesterday. Thanks for lookin' in on me.

Those are a couple of extra nice gills. Wish we could get a plan on some of those, been a while for me. Yummy dinner stuff. The wind is just not cooperating this weekend. See you tomorrow.

Had to look that 1 up Doug, "Fat Gilbert", the urban dictionary, is quit a brutal assessment of the conditions...although it sounds like you managed the things you could control & made "lemonade out of lemons"...... WTG!!
