    Default One Fish

I have one of the best women God ever created. Knowing that I got my rods a couple of days ago, and that we had some time before we had to go to my daughters house for the afternoon, and knowing that I can only watch so many vintage Christmas movies, she made it known that a Christmas kitchen pass had been granted. Don’t tell me twice. I was in the truck with the boat behind in record time. Stayed close to home and hit a place I had good luck over last weekend. Name: 9126ACF2-414F-4AA8-8C85-B55E6E44C0A4.jpg

Tied a #5 rapala on the new browning rod and almost cast it into the woods. The rod has a large bottom guide that really lets the line pay out. Never had a bump on it but it works good and is very light in your hand. The Leyland rod also did well with a 1/43 jig tied on. Things were slow where I was. The bluegill are my indicator species and even the little bumps and pecks they deliver were few and far between. So I slowed down and changed colors a couple of times, but it made no earth shattering improvement. It did let me get hung up more than usual, allowing the jig to get among the branches of the trees that were all up and down the bank. Got to an area that was a little more open and I cast towards the far side. No trees around, no brush that I know of. Pitched the little jig, began the retrieve nice and slow and hadn’t gone far when I got the thump I had been searching for. Set the hook with a snap of the wrist and the rod stopped. Yes Sir!! Lifted the rod and got the movement telling me that it was a fish and not hung up. But that isn’t to say that it came easy. There was a time when he just did what he wanted. I was impressed with both the fish and the fight he was giving, but I had no clue what it was. Staying deep and being tough it was a little bit before I saw that it was a Crappie. I didn’t even give it a chance to get loose, I hit my knees and got a thumb in his mouth. Name: A955384C-1CBF-4EC5-8059-84417D8729EE.jpg

Well, if I can’t get many I want them all to look like this!! In the picture taking and hook removing I drifted over where he had come from and I got no more from this spot. I tried some more spots and got hung some more, but one tiny tater chip bluegill was all the other fish I could muster. Time was moving on, things to do. Better be smart and get while I’m not yet in trouble. That one fish made my day and I have to say that I really like the new rods and reels. Now to clean out some to make room for these. Hope to see y’all on the water soon, til then........Skeet.

Merry Christmas Tim. What a wonderful way to spend part of Christmas day. You may have only caught one, but it was more than I did. Thanks for sharing with us.

Sorry Tim I gotta do it. Big grin...Seeing as my boss is in Boston with her son and the 3 grand babies. I got to go both Christmas eve and Christmas day. Both trips netted better than 2lb slabs. The 24th ended up with a nice mess with the largest being 2lb 6oz, and I left them biting. The 25th started with a 2lb even slab, once again I came in with them still hitting hard but didn't want to spend the day cleaning fish. The row on the left were all over 2lb3oz. I am giving up for the year to rest my knee and the baby stem cells the VA gave me for Christmas.
