Default NEWS FOR THOSE WHO LIVE ON "PRIVATE" CANALS IN LAKE COUNTY THAT NEED DREDGING

An Ordinance affecting funding to dredge canals is on the Dec. 3, 2019, agenda for the Lake County Board of Commissioners 9 am public meeting.
It is the first stage in approving new County codes to facilitate residents on private canals to vote and approve a 10-year property tax on themselves to fund dredging of silted up canals.
Credit should go to Linda Rawley Moss for pestering local government agencies until this process started.

And speaking of moving forward, work has finally (actually) started on the ramp and parking area of the new but now 10 year old lake adjacent to Stick Marsh. A contract had been awarded for the work in early summer, with work scheduled to start in OCT.
Equipment was moved in by the contractor in early Oct, but a few weeks later it was removed. But now it’s back and dirt is finally being moved as of last week.

Thank you! i have found the commissioners to be very receptive to improving our chain of lakes and willing to listen to the fisherman regarding the crappie . the ongoing silt from lake apopka and many other issues. my personal belief is that our fisherman should take their problems with the waterways to the county commissioners, since the other factors will not care, nor do anything. with the harris chain council being thrown to the wolves after 17 years, we have nobody left to get things done as they should be but the lake county commission.

I want to add that this did pass. In addition there are vehicles to possibly provide funding through various goverment agencys and the term of repay would possibly be longer. i intend to now move forward to try to get total funding for the harris chain canal dredging project from grants and possibly part of a tourism tax that is already in place. We need to start with the worst canals with muck in them and move forward until all canals are cleaned back to their natural sand bottom in almost all cases, We need to get our Crappie and Bass fishing back.We need to be the #1 lakes in FLORIDA TO FISH AGAIN. We need to start somewhere. Any members that live on canals or even waterfront on the Harris Chain of Lakes, please let me know who you are. In addition we need a Harris Chain membership drive by the folks that live in lake county . My feet are old and tired. Everyone could help me if they would just sign more harris chain members. We are also working heavily with FWC to improve our fishing and there will be meetings coming up that will be announced. I also do need the very very active fisherman for a fishermans committee from all lakes.
Daryl Cole and Ed Moes HAVE VOLUNTEERED THEIR TIME. PLEASE LET US HEAR FROM YOU.
