That was some weekend that you had. I know how it feels to have fish on/ fish off. I also know how it feels not having the fish cooperate with your plans . I'm glad that you had a plan "B" as a back up. Enjoy those gill's.
I hit the camp this past weekend for some much needed fishing time. Now that shrimping is over, I can concentrate on the Crappie again. I got the boat ready, dusted off the rods and dropped on the rod holders, rigged up, loaded up the crappie tackle and set off Saturday morning. I hit the St Johns around Satsuma, went over to the hunting grounds and dropped the poles in. Not sure which color they were hitting so I decided to put a myriad of the producers in front of them. Curly tails, jigs, and some jigs tipped with a minnow. I started trolling and drinking a cup of coffee... and trolling.. and trolling... finally fish on .. nope, fish off... Bummer.. Switched out colors, kept trolling, finally fish on.. not to be again.. .fish off.. I hit my turnaround point by then, nothing in the livewell, coffee cup needed refilling and wind picking up, as well as traffic down the channel.. I decided to hit the other side of the river and try my luck there.. I set up started trolling and apparently was right in the middle of the Mullet highway.. School after school of Mullet coming by and me wishing I would have thrown the cast net in the bottom of the boat.. No a single pole bent.. Determined to not be a wasted outing I brought those poles in grabbed my ultralight with some small pieces of shrimp.. At least the bream were biting as one after another succumbed to the shrimp... After a while, I loaded up went back to the camp and went to work on chores around there. Sunday, would be better....
Headed out early Sunday, decided I'm going south to Crescent instead of the river again.. Nice brisk morning and coffee cup full, about 1/2 way there I could tell the wind was picking up, knowing Crescent would be choppy I decided to just stay in the Creek... maybe I should have just kept going... Current hadn't changed yet, tide still coming in but I dropped the poles and started trolling. It wasn't long, two poles down , fish on.. nope too close to the blowdown and two snapped lines... no stopping with that current.. Another 30 mins and not a bite, switched out colors, gave it another 30 min without a bite and decided to change tactics.
Grabbed my 7/12 ft, put a bobber on and tossed a jig tipped with a minnow by a stob.. No sooner than the cork hit the water it kept going down, and down straight to the deep rod was bent over then pop... out shoots jig, fish off.. Another 30 mins of tossing that at everything I could I decided it wouldn't be a wasted outing and changed over to the bream setup.. At least they were hungry after one after another chowed down on the shrimp.. Made fun catching them, but the crappie were not in the cards for me this weekend....
Next weekend though, Crescent here I come.......

another good day at the office !
All I want to tell you is that you are NOT alone in that club. I’ve turned on my TM on Monroe and not turned it off for 6 hours, with a guest, and hardly had a rod bend. Most of what was caught I wouldn’t keep on a normal day. Then you get home and read someone else’s post about how well they did. Just goes that way sometimes. I enjoy the time spent pursuing what we all love but it’s always better when some come to visit. Next trip, maybe the trip after, you’ll be back into the normal routine. And a bluegill dinner isn’t an insult where I come from. Good post.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
That's how it goes some times. I went out Saturday and caught 2 specks, Sunday was a hole lot different. Hope your next trip you get em.
