January Crappie Fishing on Lake Welaka @ St Johns River
Hello folks. I am asking for advice again. For those of you who fish Florida in Winter, Is January a good month to fish in the St Johns River, specifically Welaka lake? Is there a better time either in December or Jan?

Not sure where Lake Welaka is? Near the town of Welaka there is Little Lake George & Lake George connected to the St. Johns.
January is usually a good time of year in the river, the Crappiemasters tournament is held in Deland the end of January & those
guys seem to catch some nice fish. If you're staying in Welaka/Georgetown area don't leave a trip to Crescent out

I'm staying very near Welaka on the St John's January through March. I was staying near Deland, but my RV park there closed. January fishing is excellent, the spawn starts at the end of the month give or take a week.Originally Posted by kyangler

I’ll be heading down the first of February and going out of Riverbend condos. This will be my first time coming early , I learned a lot from crappie whisper when we hired him as a guide and I highly recommend him . I’ve had luck on river flats Carolina rigging with the current running for gills(some crackers n copper heads). If you see a blue 175tf from Ohio day
