    Default Kissimmee Chain

Just an FYI, a property owner on Camp Mack Rd. has snuck through the approval of the plans to develop a party barn and gun range. This was done by hiding the hearing signs in the bushes instead of on the right of way. The run off is going to destroy the lakes in the area.

    Sounds like a good combination.
I wonder if the partying happens before, during, or after the shooting? Nah.
But i guess I’m not following the runoff concerns, could it just maybe be more of a N I M B Y issue?

The runoff issue is all the hazardous materials used in the ammo. We are already seeing issues from the sod farm runoff, now they are going to allow the lead and other materials to be added to the mix. The real scary part is that I am already catching deformed crappie in Rosalie. Not to mention we have issues with the lack of law enforcement unless they are called for a specific incident. Guess the Kissimmee chain will be added to the list of lakes that are not safe to consume fish from in a few more years.

Well since the powder has been burned before the lead leaves the barrel, that leaves only the lead.
And that could be recovered also.
I’d be more concerned about duck hunters and fishermen, and frankly not much about them.
Sewage and fertilizer runoff are a different issue. Next time your at the Camp Mack community, ask yourself the question about where much of their sewage might ultimately end up. Same goes for lots of other older communities like that surrounding the lakes and streams all over this country. Rest assured that modern day regulations are far more ridged that those of the time frame most of those communities were built.
Fact is though that lots of those old places have sewage lines that run directly, or at best indirectly, to the nearest lake.

I live here and there is no regulation enforcement around here. If the owner chose to cheat the system to get approval why for a second would one think that he would follow the rules or regulation?

Well there is a difference between officials who for whatever reason fail to enforce regulations, and a property owner being permitted to develope his property.
Unfortunatly the old cliche of follow the money, and government regulators go hand and hand.
The pollution of Lake Okeechobee for example didn’t come from upstream, nor did it come from any ranges in the area.

I believe if he is getting a permit to open a gun range then he will be mandated to show EPA his lead removal process and results from cleanup. I know the public ranges in this area in outdoor setting have to routinely close down for cleanup and lead removal. And the shotgun courses within a certain distance of waterway mandate steel shot. I would be more upset about the gigantic neighborhood that is fixing to be built where East Lake fish camp is. All those beautiful lawns being fertilized on lakeside will do more harm than that range most likely.

We stayed a Camp Mack 2 years ago for a month, The airboat noise pollution was horrible, now add a gun range to that, real peace and quiet. NOT. Fishing wasn't bad in Kissimmee, but the late night/early morning noise was intolerable. Not to mention, the smell of dope, everywhere. We are on the St John's this year again, SOOOOOOO nuch better.

This is a constant battle for those of us who live here. The sheriff's department only comes out when dispatched. No resources for regular patrols is what we are told.
