Talking Florida fisherman please read - DREDGE Harris Chain of Lakes

2 years ago i started a campaign to clean up the HARRIS CHAIN OF LAKES, starting with my canal which is at the head of the chain 2 miles down from LAKE APOPKA. and 3 MILES UP FROM LAKE BEAUCLAIRE. (the apopka beauclaire canal)
It started when for the 2nd time after a hurricane (Irma) our canals were filled with muck from the lock and Damm in Lake Apopka. Every time the damm is opened, sediment, even in good times rolls down. Not only are our canals left unnavigable, no one , LCWA OR SJMWMST wants to admit responsibility , leaving the 250 residents plus part of shirley shores , unnavigabile and smelling the toxins coming off the bottom of our canals into our yards through our sprinkler systems. (breathing problem were sever this time)
While fighting this crime, for myself and our neighbors, as a vivid fisherman, i am seeing the size and numbers go down year after year in the last 10 years particularly. Now my friends from Crappie. Com wont even come to our chain to fish, monroe, crescent etc has become their lakes of choice.
I wont go into detail because there are many, but i had the opportunity while fighting for dredging of my canal, to go on and create a program for the ENTIRE HARRIS CHAIN OF LAKES, with the help of many people.
At this point the Lake County commissioners after realizing the significant problem with the crappie in their chain and the business it is costing Lake County have agreed to seriously look at a DREDGING MAINTENANCE PROGRAM FOR THE ENTIRE HARRIS CHAIN OF LAKES ON ALL CANALS, PRIVATE OR OTHERWISE.
At this time they have one of their top people researching money for such a project, cost share, etc. Your help would dearly be appreciated, by sending a text of encourangement to Sean Parks, commissioner and Wendy Breeden, commissioner for our district where i live.. I shall provide the address at the bottom.
I have proposed a Harris Chain committee, fisherman that fish reguarly not only for crappie, but bass as well. FISHERMAN THAT HAVE BEEN ON THE WATER FOR MANY YEARS AND RECOGNIZE POTENTIAL PROBLEMS THEY CAN BRING BACK TO THE TABLE FOR EVERYONE TO LOOK AT. These reports can then go back to the next board of choice for a look at a solution.
If anyone has any further ideas that would be an assett to the harris chain of lakes, please post it to the facebook page LAKE JEM CLEAN WATER PROJECT. WHICH I SHALL NOW AFTER 2 YEARS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. JUST JOIN AND POST. WHETHER IT BE EMAIL TO THE COMMISSIONERS FOR SUPPORT OR IDEAS YOU MAY INJECT WOULD BE APPRECIATED.Those from out of state are more than welome if you have fished this chain. or have information that would be helpful.
Anyone that would llike to volunteer for the new committee, may, and of course Slab is already on it and DaryL Cole and his wife teresa.

Linda, you're doing a wonderful thing for everyone that lives in and fishes the Harris Chain. Thank you for all your efforts. Your persistence is paying off hopefully.

It has been proven by FWC that dredging the muck OUT of canals contributes signigacantly tobetter fishing as the bedding in the canals is a big it. the sand bottoms wills again induce more bedding with crappie, bss and all others.. In addition DEP has said that a lot of dead end canals become stagnant and help with the growth of Algae.

Have you reached out to Crappiemasters, I bet they could provide some good data from all the years the tourneys were held there.

yes. i can assure you, the Lake County Commissioners are now very aware of the neglect the Harris Chain has succumb to from the divisions that were suposed to take care of it. Looking at funding as we speak and for both my canal and the maintenance dredging program for all canals in the chain, or other probem areas in the lakes themselves.THIS IS HAPPENING! this is to not only improve the fishing but the enviroment as well. DEP , central district manager is working wth us at the moment.

I've unstuck this thread. We can make it a sticky again later. I believe it'll get more views if it is not a sticky, at least up front while it's active.
