Default New member new to fishing in Central Florida

Greetings! I recently developed a bad urge to start fishing again after a fairly long layoff. Before moving to central Florida I had a boat (16' deep V - Tracker Sweet 16) and fished primarily for bass and crappie. in a moment of obvious stupidity I sold the boat before moving here, so now I'm confined to fishing from shore and trying to find places within about an hour of The Villages/Leesburg area where I might stand a chance of catching a few crappie. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ...

I searched just about every thread posted this year and did not see anything that looked like it addressed this; if I missed something I apologize.

The villages is a very large place with lots of residents. Prior to moving to Vero Beach, i had lived for 10 years in the keys.
The community i lived alone now has 4 families I’m aware of who have moved to the villages, and they were all fishermen.
I know for a fact they still fish at least some. So i think i would start seeking out information about groups of others sharing an interest in fishing. As for local fishing, don’t count on that really anywhere in Florida for the most part.
Fifty to 75miles each way is pretty common.

Still working and no help in ground attack in that area, but I’m sure someone will stand up. That’s what we do here. Welcome from Debary.

Lake Miona is located near the Villages, Oxford and Wildwood. I can't direct you exacly how to get there but you get there from Hwy 301. There is a park there where you may be able to fish from the bank. Tracy Point Fish Camp at Lake Panasofkee has some places to bank fish. There is a fishing pier on Lake Harris at the boat ramp on Hwy 27 in Leesburg. On the other side of Lake Harris (near Little Lake Harris), there are piers at the boat ramp in that park off of U.S. 19 just north of the 'million dollar bridge' (there is an entry fee). Fish minnows under a cork. You can also try a worm on the bottom at Tracy Point. I hope this helps.

Go to Hoppy’s Marina near Haines City and get you a new boat. Never the same

Some nice shoreline fishing in Venitian Gardens, Leesburg, mostly for bass but certain times good for specks too.--shu
