Pico Square bill and Bandit 100 cb's

Ordered a half-dozen dozen Square bills to pull while getting to know Dead Lake and the south end of Crescent. All new water to me so the quicker trolling speeds of crankbaits appealed. I have to say my first impression was the baits we're larger than I had expected. In fact twice as big as I thought they might be. Not complaining, just surprised. Crappie must be more aggressive than I realized. This will be interesting.

Seeing I don't know better...ill drag the paint off the lot and we will see. Tomorrow will be the first time I target Crappie with intent. Other than bycatch I have Never gone Speck Fishing. I feel like a 10 year old kid the night before opening day of Dove Season..

Trolled 4.5 hours today. Dead Lake, SW Crescent, the Narrows and Haw Creek. Nothing but cranks.

Thats about on par from what I have seen from people pulling cranks on the river system. Some lakes fair better it seem than the St Johns and its connected lakes.

For trolling cranks, I find that it's better to concentrate on bodies of water that have large populations of white crappie. The whites school more in open waters in search of shad. At least that's been my experience.

I haven’t seen a white crappie here ever. I think the crank size would matter, the smaller the better. My suggestion of mixing some jigs into the spread is so that you will know when you go through a productive area. A few passes through an area that gets the jigs bit and no color changes of the cranks produces, gets you closer to your answer.

Pulling crankbaits for Crappie for only four and a half hours on my first trip ever to Dead and South Crescent Lake hardly qualifies me to even have an opinion on their effect. A observation I can't speak to, in the six hours I spent in the area I marked very little Bait fish. Find the bait, find the fish. Scott who runs Georgia Boys Fish Camp on Dunns Creek told me he wouldn't even bother Speck fishing Crescent this time of year. The young lady who ran the bait shop on Dead Lake said the same yesterday.

Question concerning pulling crankbaits and jigs at the same time. Are Jigs effective at 2 -2.3 mph?
