FWC hosts local hydrilla stakeholder meeting - News - Daily Commercial - Leesburg, FL

FWC held a public meeting at the Tavares Civic Center to gather input about proposed hydrilla treatment areas and future hydrilla management activities on the Harris Chain of Lakes.
The focus of this meeting was to gather input and feedback from stakeholders about future hydrilla management activities on the Harris Chain of Lakes (HCOL). Public input from a wide variety of user groups on the HCOL, which includes Lake Harris, Little Lake Harris, Lake Eustis, Lake Griffin, Lake Dora, Lake Yale and Lake Beauclair, is critical to create a well-balanced approach to managing hydrilla.
Maps of the lakes, with proposed areas of treatment were presented. The public was afforded the opportunity "Voice" their opinion as to the areas to be treated for the removal of the hydrilla. There is one large are within Big Lake Harris that is approx. 400 acres of deep hydrilla, which are not under consideration, at present, to be treated due to costs.
On the maps, there are blue, yellow dots representing areas that the public indicated that should be treated. Areas with red and green dots indicate areas where the public feels that the hydrilla should be left.
The areas that are outlined with white are scheduled to be treated before the weather heats up and makes the treatment difficult due to the chemicals and the hot/warm waters.
