Default lake talquin/north floirda BLACK CRAPPIE MANAGEMENT MEETING TUESDAY 3/26

    Northwest Region
Lake Jackson Community Center, 3840 N. Monroe Street, Suite 301, Tallahassee, FL 32303
    March 26, 2019 6:30p
i am interesting in presenting a proposal for a 11 inch, eventually becoming a 12", limit on crappie with a 20 fish creel limit on lake talquin to improve our already quality fishery. it has worked on the 3 "arc of lakes"in mississippi. also, i would like to address the possibility of a draw down on lake talquin in the future. many locals who have lived on the lake longer than i believe prior drawdowns have led to a better fishery...........6:30 pm i believe until 9pm

I support drawdowns and only keep 11-12 inch fish myself, but do not think the length limit will help at Talquin. Mississippi is very different than Florida. Importantly two totally different species. White crappie at 12 inches are equal in life span to a black crappie at 10. Florida has tried a 12 inch limit and it wasn't successful. As long as the creel limits are enforced including possession limits when people stay over two days the 25 crappie a person will be effective. There is a huge need for officers on our waters. Without better enforcement regulations are useless. I like your vision and goals. I know what Talquin was and can be.

thanks for the comment. i have lived on talquin 6 years and fished it periodically before that for 6 years. i have been stopped ONCE by state enforcement while on the lake. i have seen people take a limit of crappie in the morning and return for another in the afternoon. and, fishing pressure has grown tremendously. i live in the back end of hammock creek. i see it every day.

Catfish, I've fished the lake for 20 years. This year been checked "Twice" and over the years several times. Heading down this afternoon for week. Give me a description of your boat so if I see the Wardens out this week, I'll pass-on that their not checking you enough!

The "enforcement" issue came up at our meeting also in Citra. One of the Wardens was with us talking and it's purely a man power issue. They may only have 2 Wardens covering the county, over 1500 sq miles, on any given day.. So when you take into account hunting season on top the odds of even seeing a Warden are slim.

I think the FWC needs a lot better clarification on their definition of Possession limits

Just kidding! They have been out enforce early this year on the lake which I don't have a issue with. Just doing their jobs. Never had a issue with them. I play by the rules.
