    Default Fancy Fishin

    Anyone here freshwater flyfish?
I was gifted a outfit and pretty much a newbie to it.
I did a little bit of fly fishing as a kid but that was a hundred years ago, I do remember it was a lot of fun.
Looking for a good source of supplies and such.

Bps has a fly shop with some fair to food stuff. I don’t think the Daytona store has much, I would call first. Easy way to familiarize yourself is some popper bugs and the river. If you practice in the yard, a very good place to learn, don’t do too much. About 15 minutes and leave it alone for a while. Trying to get tired muscles to do what you want just doesn’t work. A 6’ piece of 10lb mono for a leader right now will do fine. A nail knot will do for attaching the leader to the fly line. Lots to learn, but not lots to buy if you do it right. Holler at me if you ever need to, be happy to help you get going. Just wait til you’re throwing that little popper and a good size largemouth eats it. 5 1/2lbs is my best so far on a fly, on a #10 betts popper. Have fun with it.

    Thanks for the replies.

Yeah Tim, I've been practicing in the yard with a piece of yarn in place of a fly. The neighbor kid's cat puts up a pretty good fight, I haven landed him yet but he will pull drag if it's set light enough.
I have a bad feeling that this could very easily turn into an obsession.

Like Tim said, you just wait until one of those bucket mouth bas inhales your popper. You will be hooked for sure.

I dabble with the long pole mainly for trout in the winter, but my first time fishing fir river smallmouth i landed a 19.25" smallie and id have to say it was the best day of fishing ever to date. I just use a 9ft 4 weight bps pole and it does what i need it to do, ive ordered flys from www.flydeal.com they are reasonable and quick to ship, you dont have to spend a lot to flyfish.

I do, but I much prefer saltwater fly fishing. I go to Florida once or twice a year to catch snook in the mangrove swamps. You should try it!

    Good casting instruction here:
