    Default Okeechobee

I am making the journey down to lake okeechobee in the near future. I have never been on it but heard great stories about it.
I am asking for any advice on crappie fishing this lake. This would be the trip of a lifetime for me, I would want to make the most of it while I am there. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.

Spoondog - when are you headed down? I will be down there 2/15 to 3/4 fishing most days... weather permitting. Be happy to let you join up to show you around. I will be fishing mostly out of the Kissimmee river and Harney pond areas. The lake is down some from years past but is fish-able. If interested pm me and we can swap contact info.

You need to take one day and fish the Everglades for Oscar. Just ride down to the Everglades Holiday Park, launch and run a half mile or so just to get out of the airboat tourist traffic and fish the lily pads just like you would for crappie. You'll catch as many as you want and you'll swear the 1st one weighs 5#. We use crickets to start but they'll hit about anything. A 10-12 foot crappie rod is perfect but you need at least 8-10# line to get them out of the pads. I use 15# braid.
It's about an hours easy drive from Clewiston and no need to go at the break of dawn. We usually fish from 9-1or 2. You will have a couple hundred by then and it starts to get hot too.

Bringing this thread to the top.
I will be fishing the kiss river on the afternoon of 3/2 and morning of 3/3. I'll be anchored up on the middle near the mouth in a fancy blue flats boat. Hollar at me if you are passing by.
