Default Anyone Fished North Lake Okeechobee?

Next weekend my pops and I are meeting up to fish the mouth of the Kissimmee River that feeds into Lake Okeechobee. It's around Buckhead Ridge, if anyone's familiar with that area (I assume so). We fished over there last year and it seems to be a pretty popular area, which is why we're returning this year. Just curious if anyone's fished out that way yet and if so, how's the bite?

We're both pumped to go back since we did really well last year. I'll definitely share our report.

I talk to a friend that lives at Bulkhead Ridge and he said the lake was down, the water temp is hot, and crappie fishing is tough however another friend said the river is productive.
I'm going down Jan.1 for a couple of weeks.

Interesting indeed. Thanks for the info. We fished the Buckhead Ridge area last year around this same time and it was a pretty steady bite while still being cool (not cold). I'm thinking the specks gotta be running through there right now. We're also revisiting Angler's Waterfront Hotel down there at the end of January with a bigger group of fellas. Really hoping to bail 'em this year!

Never fished down there but my buddies that duck hunt it swear J&S fish camp is the best place to grab a beer afterwards.

They also state that when the bite gets good you can cross the river by hopping from pontoon to pontoon at the river mouth.

I leave a week from today for a month. My buddies say it's been tough, with the low water. I hope to find them next week, the river and Buck Head area was good to me last year.

Have a good trip, but they have dropped the lake level. I hear of several lower units being damage be careful.

Just talked to my uncle this morning and said he said it's been a tough bite lately. They have been fishing both the river and the lake.

You might also try Indian Prarie canal which is about 10 miles south of the river on the same road. When you cross the bridge over the canal, stop right now at the far end and turn left, don't keep going or you will miss it. Follow the dirt road to the ramp. You can also fish the lake from there.
