    Default Didn’t Plan

Was going to work today but wimped out yesterday and stayed home. Good thing I did. Dinner with the SIL and gdaughters last night and i was just tired, more than usual and a bit cranky too. Fell asleep in the chair at about 10 til 8, went to the bed about 130 and didn’t wake til almost 7. Fat boy was whipped. Couldn’t decide what i wanted to do last night either, so nothing was ready.

Dropped in about 9 and went to my favorite hole and started catching right away, a good sign. Lots of species and no trash fish, another good thing. Couple of good Warmouth got me warmed up and the bite stayed steady right along. I’ve always like working the bank cuz you never know who’s at the next bush or tree. Today was no different. Had one good Crappie(I think) fight for a count of almost ten before pulling loose, my little #8 just didn’t have enough purchase. Never got him turned and never got a look, but there was some major head shaking going on. The small LMB were there in pretty good numbers today, got to meet a few. Little fools have an attitude! After about half of the area I work , the crappie started showing up. Small at first but I could have made a pretty good dinner with the keepers. Hyacinth was an issue for me today as the winds had it blown into a few of the areas I like. A few pics below of some of the better crappie that bit the small stuff. Saw 5. Boats today, more than ever here, and didn’t want to educate any more than necessary so I left to see if any of the big girls were around and not picked over. I wasn’t disappointed.

10 minutes later I found one of the spots and picked up the Sam Heaton. Dropped once and forgot about current, that was a bust. Next drop in an eddy and I got the thump of the month. Leaned back on the rod, and it stopped! I know the surgeon did the job right cuz I know my heartbeat went sky high right then. A little steering and a little more leaning on the rod and a mouth bigger than a silver dollar was the first thing I saw. Finally got her coming and squatted to grab a lip. No doubt this one wanted it, had to do minor surgery to remove it from way deep. Just a sneeze under 14” and 1lb, 12oz. THAT’S what I’ve been looking for. A couple of pics and a gentle return with a hearty Thank You as she went. That felt good. Backed it up 3 drops later with another over 12”. A few shorts after that and a few bluegill smacks and I was done. Stowed everything and headed for the house. Boat traffic was heavy on the river today, the break in the cold was just what everyone has been waiting for.

Didn’t plan on going today, or at all til after Christmas. It’s good to sit down to post this and see that many others also had a day for the memory bank. I hope everyone gets their shopping done and is ready when the day arrives for sharing with everyone. The bonehead behind the wheel factor is higher than usual so please pay attention and be patient. I know, that’s rich coming from me. I actually had a school bus pull out so that I had to stop or hit on Friday. Folks just ain’t thinking! Maybe I’ll get out again before the festivities, and I hope you will as well. Be safe and stretch a line....Skeet

Sounds like a great day and time. The fish bitting was just a bonus. Glad you had a good time Skeet and I hope you can do it again real soon.

Thanks for your report on the "mixed bag" day you had and for the good read and pics. I really enjoy your posts, as you are quite the good wordsmith. I wanted to go fishing myself... but after reading your post I got such a "whole experience feel" from it, that I just ate me a big bowl of chili and took a nap on the couch. Funniest part of the whole thing was... when I woke up I even had a very real feeling that I still had some fish in the cooler that I had to clean.

I always thought a fishing report should paint a picture of the whole fishing experience. I'm glad there are still some people on here who take the time to paint such a picture of their fishing trips.

At your own pace, enjoying the outdoors, catching some pre-weather change fish, a spur of the moment plan that comes together quite nicely...BTW that large mouth's brother was caught downstream yesterday=ditto on size, musta been a good hatch last year...

Thanks for the good words everyone. Really a very good day.

I believe that you’re right about the hatch Jeff. I’ve gotten a few each trip to tell just that. I might have to take the fly rod next time out.
