Default Micro SD Card for Helix 5 G2 GPS

I recently purchased a Helix 5 Chirp G2 with GPS and am putting in on my boat. I also found a use Navionics Platinum + card for Central and South Florida. I haven't has a chance yet to use either one as I am waiting for a few items before completing installation and getting on the water. The Chip is still in the mail also. My question for those in the know is when I have the Navionics card in my unit can I put WP on the card or do they go to the internal memory of the unit? If they go to the card do I need to worry about overloading the card over time as I increase the data size being stored? I will also want to store routes and perhaps contours to keep from hitting things. This will all take up memory. Or do I need to put in a blank Chip and use that to record this stuff so that I don't pollute the Navionics cards data. last question If I store things on the Nav Card can I restore it to the factory setting or should I make a backup somehow?
These are just my thoughts from having never used on of these before. Thanks for any clarification or guidance you can provide me.

Every thing will store in memory. It won't write to your card. Should be no fear of overloading the memory in the unit. One thing you should do is once you get a bunch of way points and tracks saved, get a new blank SD card and save everything to it. That way if something happens to unit you still have all your information. Don't try to save anything to your Navionics card, it will corrupt all the data on it.

Thanks for educating me. I just got it mounted and will be playing with it in a day or two after letting things setup. My chip should be here any day. Early Christmas.
