    Default Just Wondering?

Does anyone ever fish Lake Apopka? I know it has/had water quality problems but maybe a sleeper?

I have not heard anyone that has. Spoke with an FWC survey boat that was just finishing up one day as I drove past heading to a contractor meeting. They claimed to have found the highest concentrations of fish per acre and largest average lb per acre of both largemouth and Crappie in his 15 years of doing surveys. I guess with no fishing pressure and a gigantic supply of gizzard shad they have done well. I was late for the meeting by the way.

I've heard they are filtering the "mucK" & have lowered the phosphate count dramatically, consequently the down stream folks believe they are getting issues from the process....Big lake, would be nice to see a restoration project actually work....

Big lake, lots of gators.........cove in SW corner best place to explore - spring located in that cove....... Not sure about eatting anything out of that lake though. Even in the 70s the locals considered it a dead lake due to the runoff. But fishing storys still pop up from time to time on current catches...........

I have 8 ft of muck in my canal from lake apopka after the hurricane and didnt stop flowing in until june---and still light sediment flowing. I
have been fighting the system since last september and it gets worse Mike Perry the director of the LCWA dumped the nurf ponds downstresm into our residential canals and lake beauclaire. This is product that no one would accept until it was tested for toxins. Soo dumped acres and acres downstream cannot call epa they get turned back by LCWA ILLEGAL!!! IF ever there was a man that lake county dont need to clean up their waterways its him.
