Outstanding post as usual!
I hit the boat ramp around 7 am. Les pulled in just as I was finishing up with the preps. We headed out into the lake, checked the wind and headed over to work with it. Our first pass did not bend any rods. Our second pass did a little better. We pulled them up and made the run over to the other side. When we got there the area was covered in sea weed. I swung the boat south and started to head over to the main channel. On the way we saw two boats working the far east side, one was pushing and one was pulling. From the looks of it I would say that they both were drowning minnows. We moved past them, then set up to work our way back .
We came in close to the second boat and asked how he was doing. He had 17 in the boat at that time off of minnows. We had two !! I moved the boat a little closer towards the shore and started to work the shallower water. That's when one of my rods took a deep bend and the tip went under water. I grabbed the rod as Les grabbed the net. The fish hit on one of the rods that I had set up with the extra weight and the shorter lead line so there was not a lot of room to play this fish. He made about three dives before we were able to get him in the net. It was an 18 " striper. That made my day.
We pointed the bow towards the ramp figuring that I would only have to clean one fish. But as thing have happened before, the rods started to bend on the trip back in. We ended up the day with 1 striper and 3 keepers. for me and Les took home two for himself.
We are both planning to make it out for the slab fest next week. Hope to see you all then.
