Sounds like a nice trip. What were they hitting?
Tom
After not doing so well on Wednesday, I decided to test the waters again.
I met Les at the ramp at 7 am and we were the only ones in the lot..The lake was beautiful !! No wind and smooth as glass. We launched and headed out into the lake. We made it past the signs , pointed the bow into the west and throttled down. First stop was just out side of the can buoy. We shut down and started to but out our rods.
Les was in the bow and was running 4 rods. I took the back seat and was butting out 6 rods. Today I was going to split the rod set up. One side of the boat was going to be just long lines, and the other side I was going to use my floats. I threw out the bobbers first. Went to start the little 3.5 kicker motor when one of the bobbers goes down. Fish on !! Skunk off !!
The little kicker started on the second pull and we jumped into motion. ( I still had it in gear ) I hooked up the steering rod to the big motor and we started to put the rest of the rods out. We made a pass over the spot where the bobber went down and Les picked up two more fish.
I set the motor to run us in a big circle. On each pass we seemed to pick up a fish or two. Then Les's rod bent hard. It took him awhile, but he boated a 15 1/4 inch crappie. His personal best ! and I think the Tracker's best as well.
We ran that pattern until thing started to slow down. I pointed the bow to the east and we worked our way back to the ramp. At this point I was two fish ahead of Les on the fish count (but he had the largest ) As we got closer to the ramp the rods start to go off again. After the little flurry of action Les was two fish ahead of me.
We ended the morning with 16 fish for the day. The little kicker ran great but I have some adjustment to make on the steering set up.
The water temp was 86 deg. Down from the 88 that I had on Wed.
More tests to come...
A great day, or so it sounds. That’s enough fish to clean. Might go in the morning, still undecided. Will post if I do.
