Default New to fishing Lake Monroe

I just bought a boat and live in the debary area. Have started fishing lake Monroe for bass as that’s what I grew up fishing. But have heard good things about the crappie fishing? Any tips on getting into crappie fishing on Monroe?

Most of us longline troll 1/16 jigs with a curl tail at about 1 to 1.5 mph. Lots of ways that work though. Welcome from Debary.

    Welcome....
Start simple....boober fishing with minners....drift or SLOW troll. Get the fever then decide what style works for you....spider rigging, pushing, pulling, jigging....etc. etc.
A lot depends on your style boat what set up works best. Coming to the slabfest is a good start....

Welcome, JaredF. Come on over to the SlabFest / Chucktoberfest. There will be a lot of locals there, fishing a lot of styles. Everyone is very helpful, and willing to share. That's how I got started two years ago. Everything is real informal, especially in the morning. If nothing else, show up for the food and the weigh-in. We will probably be at the pavilion.
    Look forward to seeing you.

Go to South Carolina board and read the stick thread on longlining. Then read it again. Very imformative. But you can drift with minners under a bobber, spiderrig, push, longline, pullm cranks, about any tactic will work. I personally think longlining is easiest method to get started with aside from drifting with minners. On the lake find the big bunches of boats and fall in, just be mindfull of which way people are trolling and try not to cut them off, takes a wide turn longlining to not make a mess of things.

Thanks for all the quick replies! I guess I will be getting some minnows and heading out to the lake this weekend! I usually put in at the ramp on the north end in Deltona, I’m sure I can find a few fishy spots and try my luck at it. I’m excited to start learning to crappie fish, I’ve only ever caught them in small private stocked ponds on worms, so this will be a learning experience.

I did see the post on the slabfest, I will try and make sure I’m not working that morning and come out and meet some locals!

    Thanks!

When you use the ramp on the north end of the lake ( Deltona / Enterprise Ramp ) keep an eye on the wind. If the wind is out of the south, the ramp will fill up with sea weed and make the ramp unusable.

another good day at the office !
