    Default Saturday 8-25-18 on Monroe

I got to the ramp a little later this morning ( 7 am ) I launched and headed over to the spot that I worked earlier in the week. Saw and orange boat in the area and moved in close enough to give a wave. Then I move off to the side to set up for a drift. Looked up and the other boat was gone.

I moved in close to shore where I got them on Thursday and had some luck. The first fish in the boat was 10 1/2 ". I wanted to use the slot limit of 11 / 14 that some of the members use. It is hard to let a nice fish go ! But she went back to grow a little more. Dang ! that was tough to do.

I stayed in the area working the 6 to 7 FOW and was doing ok. The sun was warming things up a bit.So I thought I would work my way back to the ramp. I saw the orange goat again so I started to move over that way. Before I could get close to them I got to watch them land 3 fish. We waved at each other and then when I looked up, they were gone.

I rounded the point I was at and headed towards deeper water. I had boated 11 fish and had 5 in the box. I only needed 1 more keeper to round out my catch. I love to catch the fish and I love to eat them, But I don't like to clean them. 6 is a good number to clean at one time. And that makes two good meals for us.

It was good to see Huntinslabs out there. It shows me that I still have more to learn.

another good day at the office !

Good trip Jim. We all have more to learn, it just takes time on the water.

Great post There Jim. BTW it's Saturday. Good to see reports from you again.
The best thing my dad ever gave me was his love of fishing.

Them fish were scattered far and wide today for sure. Weird part was no bigger fish and all we caught and cleaned had empty stomachs. Wonder if the big fish and bigger predators were on the prowl all night by moonlight and kept the smaller fish tucked away till they were done. Didnt even see any gar rolling out there today. Was good seeing ya out there. I was in sight of you all day till I passed you the last time and packed up and headed in. Just had trolling motor locked on 1.38mph and covered water.

On my last pass, one of my long line rods went off and nearly jump off the boat. What ever it was, it was BIG. The rod was bent in half and a BIG fish broke water a ways back. Then it threw the hook. You may be right about the big predator in the area.

Most of the fish that I caught were from 10 to 11 inches. But I did get 6 at the 11 inch mark to give me dinner.

Mike, the (few) fish I cleaned had blind mosquito larvae in them and a few grass shrimp too.

Hope you never stop learning SlimJim, cause then you'll just be catching & not fishing, over-coming the challenges presented each outing is much more rewarding than anything else...IMO...& hopefully each outing can be a box of chocolates...with a few good'uns in there from time to time....
