Thread: Santa Fe and Little Lake Santa Fe

Last Wednesday I went out and fished both Santa Fe and Little Lake Santa Fe. I fished in water from 20 to 24 feet where I was marking fish around 15 feet in the water column. I was using a spider rig with multiple colored jigs fished at different levels in the water column. I was not using minnows. Unfortunately I did not catch a thing but the scenery was nice. I talked to people in two other boats. One boat had the same luck as me. The second boat had caught 3 small specks on jigs tipped with minnows.

Would like to get any input of what I could be doing differently to improve my catch in these two lakes. Thanks!

I would be using a rod in each hand and putting a jig in their face instead of spider rigging with many presentations. If they mark at 15 then start at ten and work your way down a foot at a time until they hit. Slow presentation with almost no movement of the jig. The cold water slows them to where they wont chase much of anything very far or very fast. Focus on figuring out the fish and presentation and then multiply it. I would use something close to a baitfish in color with MAYBE a tip of chartreuse. If you get a bite figured out you may not want to use more than one rod, it's a ton of fun.
