    Default STRAY CATS

I need help with a stray cat issue. I keep my 14' bass boat in a pole barn. My problem is there is now an apartment/town home complex adjacent to my property. It has been there going on 3 years and for whatever reason cats from this complex seem to have taken a liking to my bass boat. The carpet is now covered in cat hair, they pee in my boat, and in general stink it up. There's no talking with the residents of the complex if you get my drift.
Can anyone recommend some type of repellent I can use that will keep the cats out of my boat? My preferred method is not doable due to the noise factor.
    Thanks.

So now I trap them and take them and put them in the night box at the pound. Ive tried every type of so called repellent nothing worked ive squirted them with water guns dont stop them cant use a sure fire method since i do live in city limits good luck maybe a dog to chase them out.

To bad I can't loan you my wife's Borzoi. One time there was cat running across the back yard and the dog jumped off a 4 foot high porch over the stairs hit the cat on maybe the third or fourth step. The cat was at 30 ft from the porch when it got wacked and it was dead before it hit the ground. The cat didn't make a sound as I suspect being hit at maybe 30 mph by a face full of teeth must have broke it's back and neck.

When she had two of these critters they would play with full grown Raccoons like a cat plays with a mouse. One would get in front of the Raccoon while the one in back grabbed a leg and tossed it in the air. Those dogs were so quick it was like watching a Mongoose jump back from a Cobra striking at it. The raccoons never got so much as dog hair for their efforts at self defense.

I like cats, even owned a couple before I got married. That said why people think it is ok to let them roam free is beyond me. They probably are the same people that think my front yard is a dog toilet. We would shoot them years ago with a BB gun which was kind of effective at establishing who's yard they wanted to get into. Now I would be afraid of being arrested for discharging a weapon. We have been reduced to throwing cans loaded with rocks at them to keep the dog from killing them. It's not that I mind if the dog kills them it's just that he is too old to chase cats and tends to get hurt in the process. We have a fenced backyard so the leash laws don't really apply but if your boat is parked outside a fence borrowing a grey hound or something else that is accustomed to hunting fast prey is going to be a bad idea. Unlike cats a dog off a leash is automatically a criminal in the city.

You may want to try a shock mat I have read on other forums that they keep cats off boats.

Amazon.com : Pet Shock Mat - 30 x 16 Inches Pet Training Mat Scat Cat Mat for Dogs & Cats, 3 Training Mode Shock Mat for Cats & Dogs, Indoor Use Pet Training Pad w/LED Indicator, Flexible Mat, Long Battery Life : DOG CARE : Pet Supplies

Could come in handy even if you owned a dog or cat who gets in to places you don't want them.

Try spraying some white vinegar on the ground around where you keep the boat . They say that cats do not like the aroma of vinegar.

The only way I found to keep my neighbors cats outta my boat is to trap them & relocate them

An old timer once showed me that a post hole digger makes the best cat burying hole in the most time and energy efficient manner. Dig the hole, grab the dead cat by the tail and drop him down in head first, kick the dirt back over him and stomp it down, put the grass cutting back. Almost like it never happened.

For what it's worth, there are no laws preventing the discharge of a firearm within city limits. Florida actually prohibits towns or cities from legislating the discharge of firearms. Providing your projectile does not leave your property, there is nothing that can be done about shooting a gun on your land in a safe manner. The animal abuse aspect of it is a different story, but 22 shorts are quiet and the three S's (Shoot, shovel, shut up) rarely fail folks. Or there's always live traps and a trash can full of water.

Soak some fish sticks in antifreeze and put them in the boat, they’ll disappear

I bought a nice cover for mine, the neighbors cats decided to lay on, pee on & then scratch a hole in it until they made it inside the boat cover
and were hanging out in it like a tent
