Feeding the fish at Cabelas

When my daughter was younger, we used to go to Cabelas in Kansas City to watch them feed the fish (bass, bluegills, catfish, gar, etc) in the aquarium. They would drop handfuls of worms into the tanks, and the fish would gulp them down, pretty boring. The real fun started when they would drop in the gold fish. There would be an initial feeding frenzy when the gold fish were dropped in the tank. After the herd had been thinned, you could watch the individual gold fish swimming around before they got eaten. We used to play “which one is next” game where we picked out the next one to be eaten. You could tell by the way they moved in the water, or seemed distracted/confused if that is possible for a goldfish.

One time there was a little boy with his parents, and he would point to a gold fish and declare and point at a fish “That one! That one right there, is my favorite“. A big fish would swim by and gulp that gold fish down, and the little boy would say “AWWWW! OK, that one is my favorite”. After a few times he gave up picking his favorite.

When my daughter and I go fishing, I remind here to make her fly look like a winner of the “which one is next” contest.

I've always thought I wouldn't mind throwing a line in those tanks. Can't say I've thought about skinny dipping in them.
