does a fish story need to be truthful ?

does one need a witness or a photo and or some other form of proof ?
i think the best of fish stories are the ones that might be truthful .
case in point >>>>
i almost got pulled out of the boat the other day by a HUGE crappie !
i have a witness to it though ,so does it make it a good story ?
then it got away on the surface much to my dismay ...
does that qualify it as an even better version on said story ?
or how about i was using a medium heavy rod and it about broke it ?
and if the lews reel was screaming drag it most certainly gets a bit less than believable right ?

depends on who is doing the telling. We know who tells us what happened whether a witness or not whether it was truthful or not. lot of my fishing is by my lonesome but usually do have pics to show what was up. but then there are those hookups which are epic but don't getrdone and they get off is still a worthy tale and we all have had them.

guy like the outlaw who does getrdone and has pics most of the time in telling us a story is believed fo sho.

In the high 90% of the time, I'll be telling you the truth. But every once in a while I like to get in that gray area. Ride right out to the edge of that probably didn't happen; but it could have. Leave them wondering. I have an evil twin. His name is Skippy.
He makes me say stuff like that every so often.

sometimes i imagine what a video some of my fish stories would make .
not that i have enough time to do much video stuff ,but to be sure i bet some of them would be worthy of a big grin .
the staged stuff i see that is funny to some folks in videos i have seen, don't get it done for me .
reality is way more funny than pretend antics and staged bloopers .

Ya mean like this here 100% true story?

I was out fishin last Thursday with my recently deceased Great Grand Uncle Knutzwerth an waz ketchn a fair amount of 10-14 inch crappies. All da sudden my medium heavy rod more than doubled over and I could hear it creakin like it was gunna snap. My Lews reel was smokin whilst the drag was screammin an I wasa yellin for my Great Grand Uncle Knutzwerth to hit da record button but he waz frozen stiff in awe watchin the scene unfold!
I waz on my own at that point and had to waste sum my cold beverages to cool down the reel and finally get this HUGGGGEEEE crappie to the surface. Great Grand Uncle Knutzwerth agreed it had to be over 30"!
I get this beast boatside with the net at my ready and as I dip the net in the water Great Grand Uncle Knutzwerth sneezes and spooks the monster and it jumped five feet high in the air ifn it went an inch. What a site to behold as it shook its head n threw the hook right into Great Grand Uncle Knutzwerth's left eye.
Knutzwerth would back my story but he aint talkin ta me ever since. I think he's just jealous.

To be honest, I have never made up a 100% true fishin story of my own.

So OK, that story was believable right to the point where big foot got envolved.
Personally stories around the campfire are light years more entertaining than a video. True or not, it won't matter as long as you make it entertaining and convincing.

I don't care if my grandfather loaded both barrels with bull feathers or half full of fluff. The riveting way he told his stories had me filled with awe and inspired my love for the sport so I can make my own stories (be they true or not).

It seemed appropriate to this thread. If you are going to exaggerate the size of the fish, maybe don’t do it by over 100% and provide photographic evidence that you are completely full of it.

In this case, stating his very nice 3 lb fish was bigger than the world record would have been more believable without a picture.
