does a fish story need to be truthful ?

does one need a witness or a photo and or some other form of proof ?
i think the best of fish stories are the ones that might be truthful .
case in point >>>>
i almost got pulled out of the boat the other day by a HUGE crappie !
i have a witness to it though ,so does it make it a good story ?
then it got away on the surface much to my dismay ...
does that qualify it as an even better version on said story ?
or how about i was using a medium heavy rod and it about broke it ?
and if the lews reel was screaming drag it most certainly gets a bit less than believable right ?
i often wonder if a fish story is only a good fish story if you have zero evidence it ever took place....what say yawl ....?

The folks that ketch with me , know many of what folks think are really tall tales actually happened as stated .
More then one person over the years that has got to go ketch with me ,said the best part of reading my stories is that most of what I say in them ,actually happens as told .
Of course there are times it gets exaggerated, but most of the time I try to keep it kinda real .

My Dad used to tell about a place He fished years ago where there was a sunken car on the bottom of the river. One of Dad's friends fished around it several times, but never caught any fish anywhere near it, and was quite puzzled by it. Dad told Him "I gave up on that place years ago, it was just a waste of time. Best I can tell is that when the fish in that area see the first hook dropped toward 'em, they all get in the car and roll the windows up until you leave".

got told a fishing/snake story the other day , thought man this is for sure bs , then he showed me the images of the result , still not totally sure it happened as told , but the images matched his story pretty darn well.
