    Default Vintage Fishing

My wife bought me an old Abu Ambassadeur 5000 reel for my birthday. I was able to track down a similarly vintage rod to go with it - a Browning Silaflex 6' 6". My goal was to catch some fish with it before putting the rig up on the shelf and maybe just using it now and then. Today I had success and pulled in a decent sized bass. Lots of fun pulling one in with gear in the 40-50 year old range!

Appreciate the "MADE IN SWEDEN" gear which I have owned since 1963 (bought at Walgreens in Amarillo TX for $15.00) These reels will last forever with proper upkeep (Cleaning old grease and oil). I have obtained about 50 (Made in Sweden) reels and use them every time I get out to water. Restricted now as lakes around here are "OFF LIMITS".

Wow! That's quite a collection. Thinking about getting an old 5500C since the gear ratio on the 5000 is rather low. Also looking at some of the Abu rods. Just missed a mint Diplomat on eBay.

That’s a beauty there. Good to see great gear still going!

I have 2 5500Cs A 5000 red and 5000 black, I still troll with one of my 5500 and have a spinner bait tied on the black in the rod box, would like to find some spare parts and up grade them, reminds me I saw a 5500 in the box go for 450.00 last year
