That was some good luck
Many years ago in Montana, I lost a small wooden-handled ice rod when a fish pulled it through the ice hole. There was a bi-pod rod holder on it, but the fish somehow pulled it down the hole. Two days later, I got a hit. As I reeled it in, I saw my hook, but no fish, although there was still a very strong pull. Then I could see that I had hooked a fishing line. Eventually I saw my rod that was lost two days before. It had a 7.5 pound cutbow on the other end. The wooden handle had kept the rod sliding along under the ice, until the cutbow eventually swam into my line.
