About 40 years ago, I was ice fishing 90 feet deep for burbot , when my pole bent over hard. I set the hook and could feel the fish tug as I hoisted the rod. Every time I lifted, it would come up a little, feeling VERY heavy. Another guy near me saw the bend in the pole and came over to watch. Eventually, I could see it down deep. It had the mottling of a ling, but the head looked about three feet wide. The other guy looked down the hole, and said it had to be over a hundred pounds. Finally, as it got nearer to the top, I could see that it was a sagebrush, hooked out on the end. Every time I lifted, the branch would stretch and as the body of the brush caught up, it feel like a fish pulling. Apparently there was a current down at the bottom, and the sagebrush just rolled into my line, looking just like a hit.
I think freshwater snails carry a deadly parasite. I turned them all loose. I looked up the snail on the internet and found the species but the name was too wild for me to remember that. When I caught the first one, I really thought it was a fluke. But after catching so many now, I guess the DT6 has just the right shape to knock one loose and hook it.
Fly fishing in Colorado years ago I caught a bat on a back cast.I thought i had hooked a tree behind me until the line started screaming off the reel.He finally broke the leader and was off.
I was fishing on Chickamauga lake last month and just for kicks and giggles I put a cat road on bottom. All of a sudden my rod bent over and was pulling just like a catfish. So I set the hook and reeled for a minute thinking I had a smaller on le hooked. Then I thought this thing isn't wiggling much. It was a genuine PBR can from years gone by had the pop top and all

A 3 foot long alligator in a golf course pond in Florida. It let go of the topwater lure when I got it to the shore. I caught it three times in a row. It was never hooked, but would just bite down on the lure until I got it to the shore.

I caught a mighty big and very angry beaver in the tail with a Zara Spook. Actually the beaver caught himself when he tail slapped the water........didn't get the Spook back
I caught a 3’ long rod with a light up reel off the Gulf shores state fishing pier and it still works.
