Default Lowrance AT2 and open water crappie

I absolutely love my Lowrance AT2 for targeting open water suspended crappie. I've had all 3 major brands. For my style of open water crappie fishing and casting to these fish 30, 40, 50 and even 60 feet away from the boat the AT2 works best for me. Sure helped me catch this 3.14lb big girl on Monday.Name: 20250203_093900.jpg

Roy, active target is the one unit I've never personaly seen just internet stough. Fish a Garmin 8616 with LVS 34 and the one complaint I've always had is there is a weak zone in the display from about 15-30' where returns get smaller as you get closer. See fish much better at 35+ usualy run range at 70- for crappie 80' for bass. Think I've mastered livescope and there is no setting that will chaange that and though I catch many many fish and wouldn't give up FFS for anything, juist wondering does active target have the same issue with the narrower beam. Scott,
I also had the same issue with the Garmin LVS34 and the LVS32 as well. The 34 was better than the 32 but still a problem. I won't say that the fish and my baits may get weaker but never disappear as they did consistently with the Garmin. I will say the Garmin gave me more detailed returns when fishing brush but it also always showed dead/weak zones. Multiple transducers and black boxes from Garmin didn't fix anything.
I really love my AT2. Seldom have to make ANY adjustments, just go fishing.
I had the HB Mega Live 1 for 6 months or so. Love my HB side, down, and mapping but their FFS was never very good as compared to Lowrance or Garmin.
Lowrance doesn't get allot of credit for their FFS. It is in my opinion a very good product. Also works great compared to Garmin in March when all the pollen/algae really screws up FFS. Dont know why but my AT2 stays pretty clear while my Garmin would be a total mess for weeks no matter how I adjusted it.
Thanks fiveeyes thanked you for this post

That's interesting as you are correct during pollen season I can still see fish but hard to find your jig. One new trick I got from a poster on here that I will be trying this year is to put a glass bead on above your jig, same principal as a crimped on weight but without the weight. It does work in making it easier to see your jig especialy for newbies, but I still hate the tangles that come with having it wrap around the rod 17 times when you go to set the hook and miss and jig comes flying back to the rod.
